Es schneit im MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria

The developers of the MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria have introduced part of their weather system.

In many game worlds, it seems to only snow in areas where there is already snow. However, especially in an MMORPG that you play over several years, it is worthwhile to introduce seasons. When it snows, it should also cover the otherwise green landscape.

Snowflakes, white little ones…

In a new video, the developers of Chronicles of Elyria show that they are incorporating exactly this into their MMO. When it starts to snow in the game, not only do snowflakes fall from the sky. The snow also accumulates on the ground and the roofs of houses. From little, it becomes a lot of snow over time, and eventually, you are walking through a beautiful winter landscape.

Especially in the MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria, having seasons fits into the game, as the heroes in the game age and will eventually die. How many winters will your character experience? This leads to an even deeper simulation of the game world. Whether snow also affects the MMO in other ways, such as slowing movement in the snow or impacting trade or resource gathering, is still unclear.  Also, what happens with other weather conditions, such as rain, storms, or sandstorms, has not yet been discussed by the developers.

This spring, an offline demo of the MMORPG is set to be released, which should give players a first impression of the game. On May 3, a Kickstarter campaign will also launch, through which the developers aim to raise at least 900,000 US dollars to finance further development. The release of the MMO is, however, no longer planned for this year, but it is expected to come to market in 2017 at the earliest.
