Right away, Amazon lists 3 books related to Bungie’s MMO shooter Destiny. However, these are not Destiny novels; rather, they target a different audience.
Numerous novels have been published for Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft. They delve into the world of Azeroth, narrating the backstory, recounting past events, or spotlighting side characters. The novels give shape and depth to the fantasy world. Players become readers, perceiving the world they have spent so much time in from a different perspective, immersing themselves even deeper.
In Destiny, there is also much to experience. The game is notorious for explaining very little as there is simply no time for that. Destiny just doesn’t have time for explanations. A novel would be the perfect medium to expand on this, right?
The Books on Destiny
And indeed: There are three official books from Bungie about Destiny, which can be purchased, for example, on Amazon, but two of them are not what one might expect. We present here the three books on Destiny.
The Art of Destiny
The first is a relatively classic book about games, an art book. In “The Art of Destiny”, Art of the Game, concept art and images can be found.
Images that the Destiny developers used as a guide while creating the world of Destiny. Some concepts made it into the final game, others did not.
So far, so normal. But the second book is a bit strange.
The book “D is for Destiny” is aimed at English-speaking “young readers” and aims to teach them the alphabet. From “Four-Armed-Fallen” to the “Mysteries of Mercury” – D is for Destiny is probably ideal for Guardians to ensure that their own “little lights” will one day follow in their footsteps.
The two books have already been released, and Bungie has now announced another one. However, it is also not a novel but a coloring book. “Destiny: The Official Coloring Book” is set to be released on July 11, 2017.
Valus Ta’aurc will surely be pleased. His library, as is well known, contains two books, and both are already colored in. There is more to come.
