Epic Games, the developers behind Fortnite, have announced a new sponsorship program called “Epic Megagrants.” They plan to spend 100 million US dollars on developers, provided they use the Unreal Engine.
What is Epic Megagrants? Recently, Epic’s CEO Tim Sweeney announced the start of the Epic Megagrants program. This is a massive funding pool amounting to 100 million US dollars.
This is intended to benefit developers, filmmakers, companies, and open-source projects that qualify for the program.
The money is likely to come mostly from the huge revenues that Epic has made through the hit Fortnite.
100,000,000 US Dollars with No Strings Attached
How do you get the money? Anyone who wants to participate in the program just needs to sign up on the Epic Megagrants page and present their project as attractively as possible.
Epic will then review whether it is worthy and qualifies for the funding. There will be grants between 5,000 and 500,000 US dollars.
How can I get involved? Here’s the Epic Megagrants page.
What are the conditions? According to Tim Sweeney, the system has no strings attached and hidden traps. The only condition is to use Epic’s Unreal Engine in the realization of the project.
The completed project does not have to remain associated with Epic in any way and does not have to be sold through the Epic Shop. So you can do whatever you want.

The funding also has no deadline; you can apply for money as long as the pool is not empty.
Why is Epic doing this? First of all, Epic is pushing the use of its Unreal Engine. That alone can only be good for the company. Plus, it looks good when a multi-million dollar company does not just hoard its money but also invests in charitable actions like the Megagrants program.
This kind of generosity has a tradition at Epic: There was already a program called “Unreal Dev Grant,” which provided 5 million dollars for Unreal Engine developers.
And then Epic also made available 25 million dollars to help developers affected by the dispute between Unity developers and the SpatialOS engine transition to Unreal Engine.
