The Chinese company Drodo Studios, which published the mod and mobile version of Auto Chess, is now bringing the game back to PC. It will be available in the Epic Store and will compete with Valve and Riot Games.
Why is the mobile version returning to PC? Originally, Auto Chess was released as a mod for Dota 2 and was thus only playable on PC. However, the Chinese developer created its own version for smartphones and dispensed with the licenses from Dota.
Auto Chess Mobile has become so good that Drodo Studios apparently also wants to return to PC. Their standalone Auto Chess is set to be exclusively released in the Epic Store following an announcement at E3.
The goal of the developers is that anyone, regardless of the device, can play Auto Chess. The only differences should be in the engine. The PC version runs on Unreal Engine 4, while the mobile version uses Unity.
How is Valve responding? The company behind Dota 2 has now recognized the hype and wants to work on Auto Chess themselves. In May, they announced their own version, which will likely be unveiled in August.
But not only Valve is interested in the game mods.

How well is the Mod Auto Chess performing? Almost 9 million users have subscribed to the Dota 2 mod in the Steam library. Auto Chess is also becoming increasingly popular on Twitch.
Just on May 28, around 21,000 new Twitch users followed the game category, as Sullygnomes shows. This is by far the highest number of new followers for Auto Chess.
At its peak, 60,338 others watched Auto Chess being played on May 21.
What is the future of the Dota 2 Mod? The future of the mod for Dota 2 is currently unknown. However, several updates have already been released in June, which included new characters, balance adjustments, UI modifications, and even special events.
According to Valve’s own statement, the discussions with Drodo Studios in the past were always positive. Nevertheless, it was agreed that they would work separately on projects.
