Since today, January 14th, you can secure the game Star Wars: Battlefront 2 for free in the Epic Store. It had a rough start in 2017 but has since become a successful game. At Epic, you even get the latest Celebration Edition.
What kind of game is it? Star Wars Battlefront 2 is an online multiplayer shooter set in the Star Wars universe. In the game, you experience massive battles, both on the ground and in space.
You have the choice of various characters, including the heroes and villains from the original trilogy, the prequels, and the latest sequels.
Although the game focuses on multiplayer battles, it also offers a campaign. In this, you experience the story of Iden Versio, an elite soldier, with whom you can replay the history of the Empire from its fall after Episode VI to the rise of the First Order.

How do you get the game for free? From January 14th to January 21st, you can visit the Epic Store and secure Battlefront 2 for free there. You only need an account.
You will receive the Celebration Edition, which was released on December 5, 2019. This includes:
- The base game
- More than 25 hero outfits
- 125 trooper outfits
- Special emotes, voice lines, and victory poses for your characters
This edition still regularly costs €39.99 on Steam.
Tough Start, but Strong Player Growth in 2019
How did the shooter develop? Battlefront 2 was released in 2017, but it faced strong criticism. Especially the loot boxes were seen negatively and even considered a pay-to-win factor. Even Disney reportedly got involved due to the negative PR.
However, after the removal and later reworking of the loot boxes, the game developed positively. One reason for this was the many updates. New modes and many characters from various episodes were added to the game.
Additionally, the game benefited from the hype surrounding the new episodes and the series The Mandalorian. In December 2019, Battlefront 2 had as many players as it did at the beginning of 2018.
On April 29, 2020, the last major content update for Battlefront 2 was released. This included the planet Scarif from Rogue One and the planets Hoth, Tatooine, and Yavin 4.
Additionally, there are still events and bug fixes for the game. However, fans should not expect new major content. Nevertheless, there is a modding community that continually brings small innovations.
If you want to experience Battlefront 2 now, you can also get the game through EA Play. This has even been integrated for free into the Xbox Game Pass:
