What happened in Season 2? In Season 2 of Chapter 3, the developers at Epic turned Fortnite upside down. While past updates expanded the game with numerous features, this season removes something essential from the game.
Building, which has always been the hallmark of Fortnite, has been disabled. It is even woven into the current story, in which the sinister organization IO takes building away from players during an invasion.
Anyway, you can no longer build and create cover. Instead, you are now more mobile and have more shields. Heavily armed tanks are also available now.

Players Celebrate the Change – “The Game is in the Best State it’s Ever Been”
What are the positive reactions? Many fans appreciate the changes, especially the removal of building. Because some players who actually liked Fortnite could never get accustomed to building.
Because this feature and its mastery separated good players from casuals, and many eventually stopped enjoying competing against so-called “sweats” who exploded into building frenzies at every shot.

Other players on reddit are currently celebrating that many good Fortnite players are actually terrible shooters and without their beloved cover, they lose mercilessly against players who are good at shooters but have never built. By the way, Dr. Disrespect criticized this years ago. Fortnite makes kids, in his opinion, “soft and cowardly”.
What is being criticized? However, not all players are happy with the changes. Building was, after all, the only thing that made Fortnite really special. Typical reactions read as follows:
- For me, this is crazy. Building is the only thing that makes Fortnite unique. Without building, it’s a kind of boring cartoon shooter. Building is what makes Fortnite, in my opinion, a great game. The necessary skill and the way it [building] extends fights make Fortnite fun and interesting.
- Tanks make no sense. They remove building to make shooting more balanced, and add tanks that throw the shooting out of balance even more than building ever did.
- The only interesting thing about this game is building, why do you want it taken away?
But even among the critics, many find it interesting to play Fortnite without building. They would prefer an alternative game mode where it is disabled, and one where they can build to their heart’s content. The current way of playing without building could therefore also be a test phase to see how well this goes down with the community.
