Effort that was worth it
Which quest is it about? On January 21, 2025, a fan posted on X that the quest “Battle of Kaer Morhen” from The Witcher 3 was his absolute favorite mission in the main storyline. Paweł Sasko then spoke up and provided interesting insights into the development of the quest.
He explained that it was the most difficult one he has ever designed and implemented. In particular, the technical challenges pushed him to his limits and caused him many sleepless nights. “I lost my mind and my sleep,” he wrote on X in response to the fan post.
What made the quest so challenging? “Battle of Kaer Morhen” is one of the most important quests in The Witcher 3. Geralt and his friends defend the fortress against the Wild Hunt to protect Ciri.
Since the mission has numerous branching storylines and considers player choices, it posed a significant challenge for the developers and required many individual solutions. Every choice influenced the further course of the story, leading to a multitude of dependencies and special cases.
As putting all these elements together was so difficult, Sasko is even more pleased that the quest is so well-received by fans.
The Witcher 3 is a game that still has surprises in store even years after its release. Even experienced players continue to discover new secrets and hidden corners: A player discovered a location in The Witcher 3 after 9 years that probably very few have seen.
