Cortyn was in the Emerald Nightmare of WoW on Wednesday. There were plenty of dead characters.
The first raid of World of Warcraft: Legion opened last Wednesday, and the guilds are now busy in the normal and heroic modes of the “Emerald Nightmare.” Somehow, I’ve also found my way back into an active raid group through several detours.
Fully buffed and without a brain, we face the enemy!
A bit overzealous, we ran into the first trash group without any plan and were promptly torn apart. Who could have guessed that you shouldn’t pull several of the large “Blubbs” at the same time before the dragon lady Nythendra? But every good evening starts with a trash wipe. Old Draenei rule. We managed to blow away Nythendra herself on our first attempt without much tactical discussion – but it seems many groups had the same experience; the lady wasn’t particularly challenging.
After that, Il’gynoth, to put it mildly, really gave us a hard time, which both the boss and my artifact weapon found very entertaining. A fight with countless adds, a lot of tentacles, blood drops, eye lasers, and damage zones on the ground. Pure chaos that kept wiping us and could only be organized very slowly. But what can I say? Hours of dying haven’t been this much fun in a long time. I was genuinely disappointed when, after two hours, the raid leaders said we should now try one of the other bosses – I’m sure I could have gone on for another 4-5 hours to improve a little bit each time.
So we went to Ursoc, the old bear god of the Furbolgs. He was more our size and went down pretty quickly after some initial coordination problems.
To be fair, it must be said that both defeated bosses weren’t actually difficult, and all problems arose due to lack of preparation and ignorance (after all, hardly anyone had read guides). Therefore, the two victories didn’t feel particularly “hard-earned” – because they weren’t. But I am sure that this will be different with the upcoming bosses.
In hindsight, I also found it interesting how quickly the “elitist behavior” returned to me. It really annoys me when some people in the raid come unprepared and without potions or enchantments – that’s just a deficiency that has to be compensated by everyone else. Or when someone can’t read the clock during a 15-minute break and makes all the other players wait another 5 minutes. Ugh, it really stinks like sulfur in my apartment.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been so caught up in raid fever. And to be honest, I’m dreading that the LFR will open in the coming weeks – I’ll probably completely avoid that this time. I’ve long missed the nice feeling of really earning a boss kill – even though it only became clear to me on Wednesday how much I missed it.
It’s probably just a matter of time until the raid becomes so easy in normal mode that you just roll over the bosses – especially with the loot from the “Mythic+” dungeons, this could happen quickly. But until then, I will enjoy the time. I’m really excited for hours of wiping.
