A criminal trio steals graphics cards in a “Mission Possible”. They actually get away with it initially, but make a big, obvious mistake when selling.
What happened? Employees of a warehouse in Russia stole about 20 graphics cards under a false pretense. However, the operation was only “moderately” thought out. They were able to easily transport the coveted hardware parts out of the warehouse, but were filmed while doing so.
It really blew up when they tried to sell the cards but demanded strange prices. A pawn shop owner became suspicious. We show you the video of the theft and the whole story here on MeinMMO.
They caught a buyer’s attention with their prices
Here’s how the operation went: Allegedly, three men were arrested in Russia after stealing 20 Nvidia RTX 3070 TI graphics cards from a warehouse. They managed to escape with the loot worth around €34,000 ($38,000), but were arrested after their attempted sales at pawn shops.
The three suspects reportedly worked at the Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk, Russia. Under the pretense of picking up an online order, they broke into the warehouse and transported the graphics cards in inconspicuous boxes on carts through the building. They parked the carts under a staircase and then retrieved the graphics cards from the boxes in their hiding spot.
With the hardware in tow, the two individuals then went to an open window and threw the loot outside. Below, the third member of the trio was waiting to catch the valuable Nvidia rain. Unfortunately, everything was filmed by the surveillance cameras. We embed the video here:
What happened next? With their 20 graphics cards in hand, the thieves went to pawn shops and tried to turn their loot into cash. Due to the high prices for graphics cards caused by scarcity, a fat revenue was anticipated from the sales.
However, the trio only demanded about half the value of the graphics cards when selling at the pawn shops, which raised a flag for the pawn shop owner. It is said that he then contacted the police because he suspected the hardware was stolen. Shortly thereafter, the group of thieves was caught by the police.
It is unclear how many graphics cards the group could sell before they were arrested by the police.
The graphics card shortage has caused astronomical prices for the hardware in recent months. Many criminals saw their opportunity to make big deals. In China, thieves attempted a really big score and stole graphics cards worth €300,000 directly from a factory.
