The well-known PUBG and Fortnite streamer, DrDisRespect has been mocked for the past few weeks by an emote from Twitch that is now gone.
What happened? In recent months, an emote has circulated on Twitch that mocked DrDisRespect. For some, it suggested that DrDisRespect may have been unfaithful to his wife. The emote got under DrDisRespect’s skin. Now it has disappeared after he publicly mocked it.
Who is DrDisRespect? The star of the streamer rose in 2017 with PUBG. He often plays Fortnite and other battle royale games. His real name is Guy Beahm, and he was once a game developer himself. His online persona sports a mullet, a mustache, and considers himself the greatest.
Where does the emote come from? The emote comes from the Twitch chat of the streamer Forsen. His community consists partly of the top rowdies on Twitch who like to pick on something.
What did the emote look like? The “CD Emote” shows DrDisRespect’s distorted face with the famous sunglasses and 2 CDs in them. This is a derivative of another emote that comes from the sound of a donation and whose name was shortened to “CD.” It then mutated into this new “CD” emote. It was intended to annoy the streamer, which seems to have worked.
How did DrDisRespect react to the emote? He didn’t find it so great. He apparently managed to ignore it for weeks. But in recent days, it started to get to him. Many suspect that the emote contained a reference to his infidelity to his wife. This seems plausible when you understand “CD” as “Cheating Doc.”
In a tweet, DrDisrespect referred to people who use this emote as “a gang of little babies and sixth graders.” For him, they are “weak and desperate channels with desperate viewers.” He also explained this in a conversation with the streamer Shroud, whom he seems to respect.
Are there rules against such emotes? Yes, there are. The new guidelines from Twitch state that one should use common sense when using others’ content. This is to avoid violating copyright. Additionally, the guidelines prohibit “hate speech” and “harassment.” However, such emotes are still used extensively.
Emote disappears: For a few days now, the emote has disappeared from all channels. Those who used it no longer see the emote but only a string of characters. Twitch has not commented on whether it was deleted voluntarily or because the streamer requested it.
DrDisRespect commented on this himself:
