For the Feast of Winter Veil, World of Warcraft made a small blunder. They advertised content that is not in the game at all.
The Feast of Winter Veil has been active in World of Warcraft for a few days now. Both in Classic and in the retail version of the game, the Christmas event is being celebrated. In the retail version, new content like small gifts or fun items is added every year. This was supposed to be the case in 2019 as Blizzard had advertised it. It’s just embarrassing that the content is not yet in the game and will only appear with the next patch.
What is it about? Coinciding with the start of the Winter Veil event, WoW released a small blog post about the new features of the festival. There, a Pepe wearing a Winter Veil hat was advertised. Pepe is a small bird that players can put on their heads to accompany them on their adventures. He has various costumes, and the Winter Veil hat was new; it is his “Elder Pepe” outfit.
However, players quickly realized: This is not in the game at all. The new Pepe is actually part of Patch 8.3, which has not yet been released.
Blizzard quickly noticed and fixed this error, resulting in the blog post for Winter Veil 2019 being significantly slimmer.
When will the Winter Veil Pepe arrive? The new Pepe will only come with Patch 8.3 Visions of N’Zoth. This, in turn, will not be released until 2020 – meaning that by then, the Winter Veil event will already be over. Players will only be able to earn the Pepe in a year when adventures in Shadowlands are presumably being completed.
How did this error occur? How exactly this error happened is unclear. However, this minor slip adds to the speculation that Blizzard is currently stretching the content of WoW and has intentionally pushed Patch 8.3 further back. This would explain why they accidentally advertised the Winter Veil Pepe when Patch 8.3 should have long since been released.
