V Rising is celebrating its release on Steam on May 8, 2024, and later on PS5. The survival game has been in Early Access since 2022 and has built a large, loyal fanbase. The reason: Over the years, it has developed magnificently.
What kind of game is this?
- In V Rising, you play as a vampire who has lost his power and must rebuild his kingdom.
- You gather resources like wood and stones, as is typical in the survival genre – but also blood from animals, humans, and powerful bosses. The twist: As a creature of the night, you are the danger.
- V Rising places great importance on the action combat system for which developer Stunlock Studios (Battlerite, Bloodline Champions) is known.
In addition to typical features like base building and exploration, the game also offers an RPG component. Through skills and weapons, you can choose your own playstyle and even fulfill roles like tank or healer in cooperative mode.
It can be played solo or cooperatively with friends on private servers, or with multiple players on official servers. However, on certain servers, there is also PvP with full loot – so it’s only for the tough among you.
What V Rising is showcasing now: On May 2, 2024, V Rising released a new gameplay trailer for the launch of the game. It shows some of the game’s content. Since the early access release, numerous new features have been added, with more coming in version 1.0, such as:
- new bosses, weapons, and skills
- more areas of the map, which is now complete
- new types of enemies and themes accompanying this, such as completely insane Frankenstein cyborgs
- a collaboration with Castlevania and the vampire lord Dracula himself appearing in the game
The features expand the already quite extensive game, where you can explore a large map and discover different areas. The game will be released on May 8, 2024, in version 1.0 on PC (Steam) and is set to come to PS5 later in 2024. A specific date is still missing.
“I wish all early access games were this flawless”
At launch, V Rising already had over 150,000 players (via steamcharts). Of course, there are now fewer, yet almost 6,000 people still log in regularly to play their vampires.
On Steam, V Rising is received as “very positive,” with 88 percent across all reviews (via Steam). One of the biggest pros is the building system: you can construct a real vampire castle in a cool Gothic style, now even over several floors.
As befitting for vampires, you naturally keep a few villagers as a blood bank or directly transform them into vampire subjects. These… uh… certainly voluntary “helpers” can be sent on missions or simply made to fight.
Many reviews also praise its scope. It is noted, for example:
The game felt finished already when it was first playable as Early Access. Absolutely shameful for the “AAAA” studios. It has only gotten better since then.

The only downsides are that one can quickly stagnate when playing alone, and server settings cannot be properly adjusted. Moreover, you cannot take your character with you when switching to another server or playing with friends.
Nevertheless, the positive reviews for V Rising far outweigh the negatives. A survival game with such mechanics and especially the great setting simply has no equal – that was also our impression while playing. One of the reasons it ranks among the best survival games for PC, PS5, and Xbox on MeinMMO.
