The MMORPG Elyon is launching in the West this week. We at MeinMMO will tell you what makes the game and what you need to know before installation.
What is Elyon? Elyon is a Free2Play MMORPG that focuses on PvE and PvP content. The game’s emphasis is primarily on the action-packed combat system, which resembles a mix of TERA and Black Desert. The game was released in late 2020 in South Korea and is developed by Bluehole, the creators of PUBG and TERA.
In the West, the head start begins on October 17 and the release takes place on October 20. In this article, we will reveal everything important you need to know about Elyon in general.
Release, Headstart, and Preload
The release takes place on October 20 at 4:00 PM.
Anyone who wants to start Elyon sooner can purchase one of the pre-order packages. Through these packages, you will receive various cosmetics and 72 hours of early access. The head start begins on October 17 at 2:00 PM. On October 20, there will be another maintenance between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM (the release time).
In total, there are 3 packages, all of which include a key for the head start.

– 1 additional character slot
Expedition Package (40 Euros):

New MMORPG with action-packed combat from Korea
What makes Elyon special? The focus of the game is on the action-packed combat system. You need to aim when performing attacks and have a dodge roll that you can regularly use.
However, the combat system is somewhat slower and less dynamic than in Black Desert. Especially with the skills, there are often long animations that keep you in one position, making it more comparable to TERA.
Additionally, there are numerous skills in Elyon that can free you from a stun or other CC effects. Therefore, “Wombo Combos” that can defeat you in one hit or keep you permanently in CC, like in Black Desert, are not possible.
How to upgrade skills: Another special feature of the combat system lies with the skills:
- You learn skills over time, with the max level being 50
- Certain passive and active skills unlock through a skill tree that has an interesting function. You can move freely within the trees, but there must always be a connection, and you can never go back down
These skills can then be specifically adjusted with a kind of artifact system. Each skill has different variations in terms of damage, effect, and even range. Some melee skills become ranged attacks.
Through this system, players should be able to use the same class, but interpret and play it differently. In this screenshot, you can see the possibilities you have for each skill. To unlock the variations, you need to level up, complete certain quests, or purchase them from a merchant:
What else is there to progression? In addition to skills and the skill tree, there are runes that grant you passive bonuses. Here, too, you have various effects to choose from.
Another point in character development is the equipment with different tiers and values, which also influence your playstyle.
The game has a strong PvP focus with 2 factions fighting each other
How is the PvP structured? Elyon offers various instanced PvP content, including:
- Arena 1v1
- Arena 2v2
- Arena 3v3
- Burning Temple, a special battleground
- Realm vs. Realm battles with up to 300 players
Additionally, there is PvP in the open world, which does not appeal to every player.
How does PvP in the open world work? Upon character creation, you have the choice of 2 factions, the Vulpin and the Ontari. They fight each other, including in the open world.
In Elyon, you can be attacked and killed by players from other factions in many zones. However, PvP with your own faction does not occur in the open world. Pure PvE servers are not planned at this time.
In PvE there are dungeons with leaderboards and many quests
What does Elyon offer in PvE? At the start of the MMORPG, you will mainly be occupied with quests and earn your first levels this way. Later, instanced content will also be added, including
- 4 dungeons for solo players
- 1 dungeon for 3-player groups
- 6 dungeons for 5-player groups
Each of these dungeons also features a leaderboard, allowing players to compare with others.
In the endgame, you will find daily quests, world events, and a grinding experience that somewhat resembles Black Desert online, in addition to the dungeons. While there is also a crafting system through which players can earn money, Elyon will not offer a deep economic simulation like that found in BDO.
Is there housing? Yes, one of the side activities in Elyon will be housing.
What about mounts? Elyon will feature mounts that allow you to move faster. These will include classic mounts as well as content featuring steampunk elements, such as motorcycles.
4 races, 6 classes, and two of them dominate
What races are in Elyon? The MMORPG offers you four different races that can be used by both factions:
- Humans
- Elves
- Ein – A combination of various animal races, including rabbits and otters
- Orcs
What classes are in Elyon? The Korean MMORPG comes to us with 6 classes. In Korea, it launched in 2020 without the Slayer, which was added later:
- Warlord – A melee fighter and tank
- Elementalist – A DPS focused on magic
- Mystic – A mage that primarily focuses on support and healing
- Gunner – A damage dealer that attacks from range
- Assassin – A typical melee DPS class
Only a few months after release was the Slayer released, also a DPS class.
Each class can join either of the two factions and comes without gender lock.
How strong are the classes? In Korea, the Warlord and Slayer currently dominate PvP, while at least in PvE, the Elementalist also has a good position due to its strong magic abilities. We at MeinMMO will create a detailed article about the classes in the coming days.

Item system is based on chance and a bit pay2win
How does item enhancement work? Elyon roughly follows the system from Black Desert. You will be able to enhance your equipment and thus improve it. However, these enhancements can also fail, damaging your item.
In the worst case, downgrades can also occur. However, these can be prevented with certain items, similar to Cron Stones in BDO. These items are also available in the real-money shop.
Materials for enhancing equipment can also be purchased directly in the in-game marketplace or in the shop, although there is a daily limit. Nevertheless, there is the possibility to take a shortcut with real money to obtain equipment that would otherwise require players to grind a lot.
How does the game generally finance itself? Elyon is fundamentally Free2Play. However, the shop offers some useful items, including:
- Pets that help with looting and provide small buffs
- Storage/inventory expansions
- Premium buffs that you can already see in the pre-order packages
- Outfits
The hype for Elyon is slowly fading in Korea
How is Elyon performing in Korea? Currently, Elyon belongs to the top 30 most played online games in Korea. However, it lags behind MMORPGs like Lost Ark, Black Desert, and Blade & Soul.
Initially, Elyon started with high player numbers, but some bugs at launch likely deterred players quickly. Much of that should have been fixed by now.
Another issue is that it is not entirely clear which target audience the MMORPG truly appeals to. There are PvE and PvP content, some of which resemble a theme park, but it has not specialized in anything. This could be a reason for its gradual decline in ranking.
