Sometimes it’s just certain situations that arise in the game that lead to great adventures. This was the case in the space online game Elite Dangerous.
In Elite Dangerous, exploring the galaxy is a very interesting part of the gameplay for many players. What is there to discover out there? However, very long trips into the unknown can be very dangerous, as the player CMDR Macedonica found out, who wanted to venture to the edge of the galaxy and ended up stranded there. His hyperdrive was missing an essential resource that could not be found anywhere. With the remaining fuel, he wouldn’t even have made it to the next solar system. Not to mention the core worlds that were over 1,000 light-years away.
A spectacular rescue mission
Now the player could have simply activated self-destruction to respawn in a safe haven. Instead, he sent out a distress call in the official game forum. Following that, player CMDR Chiggy offered his help. Initially, he advised Macedonica to look for a planet with rings or for asteroids. However, Macedonica did not have the tools to engage in mining. So Chiggy set out to find Macedonica.
The journey took about 48 hours in real-time and was recorded in shortened form on video. Chiggy helped Macedonica to get enough fuel again and both were able to leave the system afterward. This situation shows what one can experience in Elite Dangerous and that the online game thrives on such situations.
