The word filter in the space online game Elite Dangerous is currently facing some criticism from players.
Frontier Developments wants certain words like insults and swear words not to appear in the game. Therefore, there is a word filter that sorts out such words. However, this leads to quite curious situations.

Word filter leads to curious spaceship names
The player Ithilessil wanted to name his spaceship “Hello, World”. However, the game turned it into “***oWorld”. This is because “Hell” is on the list of prohibited words. The same happened to another player who wanted to name his ship “Embassy”. However, since “Ass” is not allowed, his spaceship is now called “Emb***y”.
Players feel patronized
The development team responded and added the word “Hello” to the whitelist, but the word “Hell” remains prohibited. This is curious since there is an official station in the game called “Hell Port”. This means that Frontier Developments is breaking its own rules.
Players feel strongly patronized by the strict word filter system and explain that Elite Dangerous is not a kindergarten where they constantly have to watch what they say or write. Whether there will be a general relaxation of the rules is still uncertain.
In the official forum, players advise others to use words from other languages, such as German. It is possible to create spaceship names with the worst German swear words without them being censored. However, Frontier Developments keeps adding new words to the filter. This means it is really only a matter of time until swear words and insults in other languages will no longer be possible.
