In the space MMO Elite Dangerous, a major change is coming soon with “Odyssey”. A trailer shows the fulfillment of the players’ great wishes.
This has now emerged: A trailer for “Elite Dangerous: Odyssey” suddenly appeared on YouTube. It showcases the upcoming update and features many elements that will excite fans.
Odyssey leaves players in awe

What does the trailer show? The trailer features two characters wandering around on a desolate desert planet. This brings much joy to the players, as “Space Legs” had been nothing more than a big dream until now. You could only pilot your spaceships or the small rover vehicle – walking on planetary surfaces, in spaceships, or on space stations was not possible.
Additionally, the characters now carry handheld firearms. This could also take Elite Dangerous in a whole new direction. Previously, weapons were only mounted on the spaceships, and thus battles could only occur between ships.
Another highlight is atmospheric landing. Upon approach to the planet, you can see the typical atmospheric effect, and during landing and passing, dust is kicked up. The developers mention that soon you will be able to land on planets and discover settlements. While they do not specifically mention atmospheric landings, it appears in the trailer that it could indeed be the case.
What do the developers say about this? Elite Dangerous talks about a “galaxy like never before”. You should be able to choose between various missions and make choices between things like diplomacy and wild battles.
You should also be able to experience intense first-person shooter-style battles. You will be able to equip your characters with weapons and gear and then set out with teammates.
In general, you can now team up with your crew and establish social centers. There, you can plan your next steps together.
What does this mean for Elite Dangerous? This could significantly change the game and elevate it to the next level. While players have previously focused on ships in Elite Dangerous, it could now become more personal and immersive.
Combat in first-person shooter style, base building, space legs – there have already been leaks and early signs for all of this. And it looks like these major player wishes could soon come true. Landings on planets with atmospheres have been among the most desired features since launch.
Right now, there is a lot happening in the space MMO. After all, huge carrier ships were recently announced, which are set to arrive on June 9th. With Odyssey, the major highlight could follow, which had previously been known as “The Next Era” and was announced by the developers of Frontier Developments for 2021 (originally for late 2020). According to the developers, this is said to have the biggest impact on the game to date – and that would fit perfectly with Elite Dangerous Odyssey.
When will Odyssey be released? The expansion is expected to be released in early 2021. However, an exact release date is still not known.
