Since the Engineers Update for the space MMO Elite Dangerous was released, a war between humans and machines has been taking place.
The update, along with an improvement in the AI of NPC opponents, led to the NPCs acquiring better weapons through the Engineers and even developing their own, which the developers of the MMO did not anticipate. Among them is a rail gun that could fire at the speed of a pulse laser.
Machines are hunting humans!
This led the AI opponents to actively hunt human opponents and attack even when there was no bounty on them and they were not transporting any illegal goods. The overpowering weapons of the AI led to human players surviving only a few seconds after spawning from a space station.
Now, the developers have programmed a patch designed to create better balancing. It is explained that they will not roll back the new AI, but that they will simply not allow NPCs to use Engineers weapons. They also humorously assure players that the AI in Elite Dangerous has not developed consciousness and that they are not dealing with Skynet from the Terminator movies.
Patch does not change the enemy AI
Once the patch goes live, players should have better chances in combat against the AI enemies. Nevertheless, they remain a challenge. It is currently planned to release the patch as part of the next regular update for the space MMO, which is scheduled for this week. Afterwards, they want to see how the AI performs and if any further optimizations need to be made. However, they do not want to make it too easy for the players.
