The Thargoids are back! Fans of the Elite series surely remember the insect-like aliens, who are now appearing in the space online game Elite: Dangerous.
The Thargoids have long been adversaries in Elite, which is why fans have been wondering since the announcement of Elite: Dangerous whether the aliens would appear in this game as well. Now it is confirmed: Yes. Several players have reported being pulled from hyperspace during their travels through space, only to see a massive alien spaceship.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
This ship, resembling a flower, scans ships and then disappears. It is not possible to attack the aliens, as they will disable the spacecraft and the systems only reboot once the extraterrestrials are out of range and about to disappear.

Is a war imminent?
The encounters have now also been confirmed by the developer studio Frontier Developments. From the very beginning, it was said that the Thargoids from the earlier Elite games would appear again. Currently, according to the developers, these are only encounters like the one described above. But there are further plans. A future expansion is expected to greatly expand the role of the Thargoids. Could a new war be on the horizon?
