In the space game ELITE: Dangerous, players have found a secret – only what it means, no one knows yet.
The Creepy Sounds of Merope 5C
When developers present players with a special challenge, they are usually eager to master it. However, this turned out to be not so easy in ELITE: Dangerous. David Braben, the mastermind behind the ELITE franchise, made it clear to the community some time ago that there would be a few things in the game that no player had found since patch 1.2. True to a passionate community, they turned the galaxy upside down and searched every conceivable point – with some success.
First, an “Unknown Artifact” was found, where players were encouraged to “listen closely”. From the sounds, they developed their own code, translated it into binary and tried in various ways to solve the mystery.
Now the player Commander Octo managed to discover another secret nearly 150 light-years away. On the planet Merope 5C, he discovered the “Space Barnacles”, which emit mysterious sounds. The sounds vary from loud to soft, occasionally even truly frightening and spooky – in any case, they are mysterious.
Once again, the community is faced with a riddle. Do the two discoveries mean anything at all? Are they linked?
