In Elite Dangerous the first chapter of the massive update Beyond is now live. It features a new crime system, better overlays, a new ship, Coop missions, and a galactic news broadcaster. At least the crime system sounds like GTA V in space.
The space sandbox game Elite: Dangerous is set to receive some major updates in 2018. These updates are summarized in chapters for Elite, and this time it’s called “Beyond.”
The new features aim to significantly enhance the existing gameplay of Elite: Dangerous, making it more accessible and exciting. New players should also be able to jump right into the action.
Future releases will include player squadrons among other things. But that’s material for later updates. The start of Beyond consists of useful system adjustments, the crime system, Coop missions, and a new combat ship.
Bounty Hunters, News Presenters, and New Combat Ship
The first chapter of the Beyond update for Elite: Dangerous was released on February 27, 2018. PC players could experience the first chapter of Beyond earlier in the beta. Beyond: Chapter One includes among other things:
- An overhauled crime system. Ships committing crimes become “hot” and are considered wanted. Bounty hunters who bring in such ships receive rewards.
- You can complete “wing missions” together with other players in Coop mode.
- The news broadcaster “GalNet” will now fully voice its broadcasts for the first time. Previously, you had to read the news painstakingly while being distracted by the game.
- You can find and utilize the relics of the “Guardians,” another alien race.
- The new combat ship Chieftain is designed to help against aliens.
- There are new contacts for owners of Elite: Dangerous – Horizons.
- Changes to the engineering mechanics now allow you to receive guaranteed upgrades.
- Better overlays facilitate trading.
- The systems for mission rewards have been revised.
Further chapters of the Beyond update are expected later in 2018. By the end of the year, the long-awaited squadrons and fleet carriers are finally set to be introduced.
Space bus drivers have little to laugh about in Elite: Dangerous right now. The bulk passenger transport has been significantly nerfed and yields less profit.
