Elden Ring: Nightreign is only a few weeks away from its release, and the closer it gets, the more information becomes available. One of these pieces of information concerns cosmetic content, as fans can now customize their heroes with skins, which are said to be free.
What’s new to know? In a 10-minute overview video from FromSoftware, various mechanics of Elden Ring: Nightreign are explained (via youtube.com). In addition to the end bosses and the core mechanics, a fundamentally new system was introduced, allowing players to customize their Nightfarers, or classes, with skins and new outfits completely free of charge.
These skins range from various variations of the familiar Nightfarers, such as recolored armors and minor adjustments, to completely new outfits that can change the overall appearance.
For the more drastic skins, FromSoftware has drawn on its well-known Dark Souls trilogy, bringing back armors that could even bring tears of joy to some fans.
Familiar armors from Dark Souls for the appropriate heroes
Which armors are included? In the overview, the skins were only visible for a few seconds. Three examples were shown with the following famous armors from Dark Souls:
- Leonard’s armor, the Ringfinger of Rosaria (Dark Souls 3) – Belongs to the Ironeye
- Solaire’s armor from Astora (Dark Souls 1 & 3) – Belongs to the Guardian
- The Faraam armor (Dark Souls 2 & 3) – Belongs to the Wylder
It seems that the armors each belong to a Nightfarer. You cannot wear Solaire’s outfit while playing as the Wylder. However, there is good news: each Nightfarer is expected to receive multiple well-known armors. Some footage is circulating where the class of the Wylder is even wearing Artorias’ armor (via reddit.com).
It is quite possible that familiar armors such as those from Catarina (Onion Armor from Dark Souls) or Tarkus’ Black Iron Armor (Dark Souls 1 & 3) could appear in Nightreign.
How do I earn the armors? As it stands now, the skins will be free and can also be earned in-game. There should be an NPC pot in the Round Table Hold that fans can interact with.
This character sells gestures and jewels to enhance builds. Later on in your journey, you will encounter the currency “Merk.” With this, the merchant’s offerings will expand, allowing you to purchase additional styles and outfits.
Unlike games like Destiny 2, Fortnite, or Call of Duty, where fans usually purchase their skins with real-money currency and have to pay extra on top of the full-price title.
