On March 28, there is expected to be an important announcement from the developers of Gearbox. A teaser gives hope that it will be the reveal of Borderlands 3.
What has been announced? On Twitter, developer Gearbox shared a photo on March 12. It shows a street sign that reads in bold “March 28, Boston MA”. Above it is a smaller sign that says “Exit 3”.
The scene is styled in the typical comic style of the Borderlands franchise. This leads to the assumption that the announcement is also related to Borderlands. The small sign with the “3” gives fans hope that the announcement of Borderlands 3 will finally take place this month. Others remain skeptical and suspect it could be trolling again.

Why March 28? During Pax East, developer Gearbox has a slot in the program on March 28. They plan to show “never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises”.
What we know so far about Borderlands 3: There is still not much known about Borderlands 3. However, over the past few years, developers have teased small snippets related to this game.
- In 2017 it became clear that about 400 people are working on a game from Gearbox that many are waiting for
- Initially, it was assumed that a release in 2018/2019 would happen, but that was soon ruled out
- Now we know that a highly anticipated game is set to release in the fiscal year 2020 – which would be from April 1, 2019, to March 2020.
This is what fans say: Players who enjoy the Borderlands franchise have been waiting a long time for the announcement of the big “3”. Accordingly, the reactions from fans are now also very positive.
On Reddit , a user writes: “The exit number is either a big hint or a red herring. I expect a BL1 Remaster announcement for April/May and as a bonus, Borderlands 3 in September.”
Another Reddit user writes hopefully: “The corner in the top right says ‘Exit 3’, so it IS Borderlands 3, right? OR?”
This is why fans believe it’s trolling: After expectations have often been raised in recent years without leading to an announcement of Borderlands 3, there is also some skepticism.
So, the chief developer Randy Pitchford tweeted before E3 2018 clear signs of an announcement for Borderlands 3. Among them, “Today, my to-do list only has 3 things. But I also have 3 meetings scheduled before 3 PM. Is the universe trying to tell me something?”
But at the Game Awards, BL3 was not presented and fans were frustrated. Therefore, skepticism prevails now.
On Reddit, a user writes: “I can hardly wait to see that it will be anything but Borderlands 3.”
Another writes: “They’re announcing 3 remasters: Borderlands 1, 2, and The Pre-Sequel.”
For now, players want to wait until March 28 and see what the announcement really holds. Do you believe in an announcement of Borderlands 3?
