A player of Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4 & Xbox One) is missing an arm and is struggling with the controls. Within a day, countless community members and even the developers from Epic offered to help him.
You can play Fortnite: Battle Royale on console or PC. The common input devices are mouse and keyboard or gamepad.
A player with the Reddit alias “Gemini_99” has been missing part of his left arm since birth. Therefore, he prefers to play with a controller and mouse, as this allows him to compensate for his handicap.
This, however, does not work easily in Fortnite.
Double Input is a Problem
As in many other games, Fortnite blocks the so-called “Double Input.” This means that the game only accepts input from one control device at a time. Either the mouse OR the gamepad, but not both.
Gemini_99 controls his character with the controller, using the mouse for precise shooting. However, due to the blocked double input, he can only walk or aim. So if Gemini_99 does not want to play only as a sniper, he has a problem.
Developers Looking for Solutions, Community Offers Advice
However, Gemini_99 still wants to play Fortnite properly and published his dilemma on Reddit. Within a short time, numerous players responded, some with similar handicaps. There were tips regarding special hardware and what to pay attention to in order to achieve accessible controls.
Additionally, the developers at Epic Games became aware of Gemini_99. One developer added the issue to his to-do list and wants to take a closer look at it. The problem seems to be that the simultaneous input of the controller and mouse can exploit the auto-aiming feature of the gamepad on the mouse.
The developer, however, asked for details about Gemini_99’s setup and wants to examine the matter further to find a potential solution.
Players Grateful for Help
Gemini_99 has expressed his deep gratitude for the active assistance in an update to his post. His post received over 300 helpful responses on Reddit in less than a day.
In Fortnite, a player with a disability was helped quickly before. Back then it was about the autorun feature.
