What are player roles anyway? Player roles are a new feature in FC 25 that replaces tactical player instructions. Player roles determine how your professional behaves when you are not actively controlling him. This applies to the offense when you are in possession of the ball, but also to the defense when your opponent has the ball.

In EA FC 25, you have access to 33 player roles. For most roles, you can choose between at least 2 of a total of 4 focuses.

Additionally, a player can master a role to varying degrees. This is expressed by the plus signs:

The Advantages and Disadvantages of the 5 Best Player Roles

“Defensive Professional” for Center-Backs (CB)

The Defensive Professional is the center-back in the classical sense. The role is focused on maintaining the defensive line and preventing gaps. Thus, the role comes closest to the core task of a defender, which is to take care of defense.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Role:

• defensive stability
• no gaps in the defensive line
• always stays back
• does not participate in the build-up play
• static in position, does not make creative runs

“Full-Back” for Right/Left-Back (RB/LB)

In the role of Full-Back, your RB or LB takes care of defensive stability. He forms a more or less tight defensive line with the center-backs, depending on the focus (balance/defense).
