The next major update for EA FC 25 is live. The Pitch Notes for the update announce 2 changes that are sure to please the community. On MeinMMO, we present to you the two most important changes and summarize all other adjustments for you.
What kind of update is this? The Frost Update is almost a traditional update that appears annually during the pre-Christmas season.
The update is available on PlayStation 5 with a size of 2.16 GB and has been available for download since early Wednesday afternoon (December 4, 2024). It brings several important changes.
Essentially, the adjustments refer to the following 6 aspects:
- Rush updates based on community feedback
- Gameplay updates based on community feedback and FC IQ
- Ultimate Team
- Career mode
- Clubs
- Visual updates
Title Update 6 addresses kick-off bug and rush issues
What are the main innovations? In addition to numerous smaller adjustments, two innovations in particular could have a major impact on gameplay.
Kick-off bug is to be prevented by smarter runs
The kick-off bug has been notorious in the community for years. Many players exploit the moments after the kick-off to easily bypass the opposing defense with a long, high pass. If one did not consciously select one of their defenders manually, there was practically no chance to defend this play.
EA has recognized this problem and is now responding with increased intelligence for the defenders, to better manage the deep runs of attackers after the kick-off.
Rush mode with less game time and controller blocking
In Rush mode, there are also two important innovations for you. The game time in Rush mode has been reduced from 7 to 5 minutes. EA states: “We have found that 95% of all matches were won by the teams that were in the lead from the 5th minute onwards. A more dynamic game and the possibility for comebacks are expected.” (via EA.com).
However, for many players, it will be much more important that EA is working to recognize those who block the controller in Rush and thus do not really participate in the game. The likelihood that such players will be kicked out of the active Rush match is now said to be significantly higher.

Gameplay and FC IQ
- The pace and fluidity of skill moves and shot feints (especially for max. 3★ skillers) have been increased
- Players recognize their own offside positions faster and rush out
- The time window for directional runs (L1/R1 + right analog stick; LB/RB + right analog stick) has been adjusted
- During a pass in Player Lock, the player can be switched
- 2 new player roles are added
- The classic number 10 for the position of the central attacking midfielder (CAM)
- Wide midfielder role for the central defensive midfielder (CDM)
- 4 new focuses available for 13 roles
- Build-up (for various roles)
- Aggressive (for center-backs)
- Ball recovery (for supportive midfielders)
- Support (for various roles)
Ultimate Team
- Over 100 new player items (Mats Hummels, David De Gea, Alexis Sánchez, Sergi Roberto)
- New live friendly mode “Max Tactics”
- All pros play with Role++
- New live friendly mode “Winter Match”
- Winter weather conditions lead to adjusted dribbling and passing
- New rarity filter for the Squad Builder Assistant
Career Mode
- Improved PlayStyle+ (up to 2) development for goalkeepers from the youth academy
- Enhanced PlayStyle development for players in general, depending on rating
- New live starting points
- New players for the Icon career: Pelé, Abily, Kaká, Riquelme, Ribéry
- Snow in training games
- Improved game faces for youth players and in Create Your Club
Clubs
- Double XP events: the better you perform, the more XP you gain
- Two new facilities: VR and Passing Drill for the development of attributes and PlayStyles
- Winter weather conditions
Visual Updates
- Visual menu adjustments in winter look
- Over 200 adjusted game faces, especially for Ligue 1 (Donnarumma, David, Ito, and more)
- 2 new celebrations inspired by Alexander-Arnold and Vlahović
What else does the update reveal? EA has also used the Pitch Notes for the Frost Update to announce future changes for certain criticisms from the community:
- Scoring from corners
- Direct power shots
- Directly forwarded high lob passes
- Normal dribbling with the left stick
Additionally, EA states that this is just a selection of the upcoming adjustments. The mentioned improvements will also appear with an update. Meanwhile, EA has a new competitor and it is already bringing a lot of joy to a well-known German streamer: Streamer praises the new competitor to EA FC 25, although he himself cannot win with the best team
