In EA FC 24 a player fell victim to a scammer. The culprit shamelessly exploited the gullibility and goodwill of his counterpart and is now a million coins richer in Ultimate Team. The defrauded shared his experiences on Reddit.
How was the player scammed? After an EA FC 24 match, which the opponent won, Reddit user “tanegl” asked about his opponent’s tactical settings. The opponent was communicative and agreed to share his tactical guidelines with the loser.
In his naivety, the unsuspecting user handed over free control of his Ultimate Team account to his opponent through the Shareplay function on PlayStation. This, however, would become his downfall.
The fatal result of his blind trust he posted on Reddit.
“I am gullible, so I got scammed”
What happened next? His opponent saw the opportunity to inflict not only a defeat on his adversary but also a painful coin loss, rapidly boosting his own account.
Contrary to the agreement with the gullible user, the crook did not go into the tactics menu but onto the transfer market. There, he quickly bought the overpriced MadReady card offered by the scammer from Chelsea player Sam Kerr for one million coins; and that with the account holder’s coins. Sam Kerr normally has a market value of around 200k, well below the million mark.
A nasty loss. Comments under the Reddit post reveal that the thief
immediately ended the Shareplay and deleted the conversation (via reddit.com).
The scam tactic of stealing from someone via Shareplay was not known to us. However, the affected can now join the ranks of robbed players in EA FC 24. In another article, we already reported about the hacker attack on two well-known German streamers.
Reddit community shows incomprehension, hopes for learning effect
How does the community react? Reddit is overflowing with posts about this incident. Part of the users can’t believe how easily the victim made it for the perpetrator and why nothing was done about it.
For instance, user “Life-Outlook-31” asks if “tanegl” simply watched as the scammer went onto the transfer market and bought the most expensive Kerr card.
In response, he stated that they had talked about many things in EA FC 24 for about an hour and he had also been too inattentive and too comfortable to check exactly what his opponent was doing (via reddit.com).
Some, however, show compassion and wish the affected that everything will turn out well again. Many users provide tips on how the robbed player should proceed now.
Everyone hopes he has learned from his naivety: User “LiteralMushroomCock” draws a conclusion from the entire topic and formulates the following lesson: “At least you still get back 200k if you sell them. Big L (stands for loss, note of the editor), but you’ve learned from it and you will move on. Never do that again.” (via reddit.com)
User “HazardWarningTen” also hits the same note, noting that the lesson could have been taught in an even worse way. He writes: “Better you learned from losing virtual currency than real money.”
How does the scammed user himself comment on the incident? His numerous comments indicate that he has definitely learned from his mistakes. The following post best summarizes his more cautious attitude for the future:
I now trust in the basics again. Don’t talk to strangers, don’t get into strangers’ cars. Now it’s just me and my Kerr against the rest of the world.

At least the scammed user can take it with humor.
At this point, it should be mentioned again that you should only share your screen with people you know and where you can be sure that they have no malicious intent.
You also have the option to activate the Shareplay function without the other participant gaining control of the controller and the game.
The scammed user at least had the advantage that he did not share his account details with the unknown person, thus protecting his account from further external attacks.
A large part of his coins was lost by the reckless player anyway. Therefore, our list of 5 affordable strikers in EA FC 24 who are still really good could certainly help him. But we also recommend that you check out this article.
