Shortly before the Team of the Year (TOTY) vote in EA FC 24, a well-known German Twitch streamer voted for FIFA for his TOTY. Although he selected many fan favorites, the two arguably best and most successful football players of the last 20 years did not make it into the team. Which FIFA expert are we talking about? Simon Schildgen, better known as GamerBrother, is arguably the most famous German EA FC 24 streamer at the moment. In addition to regular streaming content, “Broski” now hosts his own football talk show and is even sought after as a football expert in live broadcasts.
Now, the content creator has addressed the selection of TOTY in EA FC 24 and chosen his personal favorites. For this, he also relied on various statistics that should enable him to make an objective choice. This led, among other things, to the two stars of the last two decades not playing a role in the voting.

Which players does the expert see in the TOTY? The players are arranged in a 4-3-3 formation. The following stars belong to GamerBrother’s TOTY squad:

What stands out in the voting: GamerBrother left personal feelings aside in his choice and relied mainly on statistics and expertise.
Manchester City, which not only celebrated their championship in the domestic Premier League again but also crowned themselves as the best team in Europe through a strong Champions League season, is understandably represented in the voting with four players.
The team with the second most players is already FC Bayern. The German record champions provide two players for the TOTY with Kim Min-jae and Harry Kane, despite a mediocre season 22/23 at both national and international levels.
Other Bayern stars, as well as additional Bundesliga players are among the nominees for the TOTY in EA FC 24. We will introduce them to you individually.
Furthermore, we find a colorful mix of stars from the best clubs in the top European leagues in the expert’s selection. Players outside Europe did not make it into the expert’s TOTY. Thus, it is also clear that the two aging GOATs (Greatest Of All Times) are not candidates for the streamer.
TOTY for the first time in history without Ronaldo and Messi?
What speaks against Ronaldo and Messi in the TOTY? For the first time since the introduction of the TOTY in FIFA 13, the team could include neither Ronaldo nor Messi; at least if it depends on the FIFA expert.
Although Ronaldo was among the most successful scorers worldwide in 2023, these numbers are not enough to convince Broski. According to the streamer’s opinion, it must be considered that Ronaldo’s goals and assists primarily occurred in the Saudi Pro League. Therefore, according to the expert, this league cannot yet be compared with the top leagues in Europe despite the influx of stars last summer.
The same argument applies to Lionel Messi, by the way. Although the Argentine did not need a long adjustment period at his new club Inter Miami in the USA to shine immediately with goals and assists as he did in his prime, the level of the American MLS is still far from being at a level to compete with top European football.
However, fans of the GOATs do not have to bury their hopes for a TOTY spot for two reasons.
What speaks for Ronaldo and Messi in the TOTY:
- On one hand, both players have an enormous fan base. Since both players could be nominated for the TOTY for the last time, it is possible that the fans will vote enthusiastically.
- On the other hand: Even if the two do not make it into the starting XI of the TOTY, there is still the chance of being the twelfth man.
In the case of the twelfth man’s choice, there would be a bitter aftertaste for one star, as only one of the two could then become the twelfth man, thereby outshining the other.
