In a press release, EA has confirmed that they are currently working on three new “Star Wars” games. Although they all share the same license, different genres are addressed. We at MeinMMO summarize.
What happened at EA? In a press release, the publisher EA announced today, January 25, that they will continue to exploit the Star Wars license. In this context, three new “Star Wars” games are to be released, each representing a different genre.
These include:
- A strategy game
- A first-person shooter
- A single-player RPG
The single-player game will be the sequel to the Star Wars Jedi series, presumably Jedi Fallen Order 2. The name, however, has not yet been confirmed.
There is also no official release date or time frame confirmed. Insider Jason Schreier reveals on Twitter, however, that at least the next Fallen Order title should be released this year or next.
Who is working on the titles? The single-player RPG is being developed by Respawn Entertainment, which previously created Fallen Order and is also responsible for Titanfall and Apex Legends. Stig Amussen is set to lead the project, a role he previously held for Fallen Order and also did for God of War 3.
Respawn is also said to be working on the new first-person shooter. For this project, Peter Hirschmann is responsible, who previously worked on Star Wars: Battlefront and The Force Unleashed.
However, it is still unknown whether this will be a single or multiplayer game. In a job posting for one of the “Star Wars” games, a developer is sought who can develop “cross-platform” environments.
Additionally, a person is being sought who can guarantee fast action in exciting levels. This should ensure that the shooter plays as fast-paced as Titanfall and Apex Legends.
A leak two weeks ago announced a single-player shooter with the “Star Wars” license and seems to be correct but has nothing to do with this announcement. Industry insider Jason Schreier confirmed that this is apparently another project in the “Star Wars” universe.
The strategy game will be implemented by the new studio Bit Reactor. This studio has just been founded and is led by Greg Foertsch, who previously worked as Art Director for XCOM 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Former developers from Fireaxis, who contributed to the Civilizations series, are also working in the team.
When will the games be released? Currently, no time frame or date for the titles is known. It is only certain that the games will be released, and that alone seems to please many fans. Well-informed insider Jason Schreier, however, claims on Twitter that at least the single-player RPG should come this year or next and is well advanced in development.
According to his information, the other two titles are still years away and the announcements are mainly intended to attract more personnel for the games. However, there is no official statement from EA regarding release timelines.
The community is pleased – if it weren’t for one thing
What is the mood? People seem to be excited about the announcement of the games. Especially the strategy game and the sequel to Fallen Order are generating many positive feelings in the comments. However, there is one thing that worries the players and dampens the mood a bit, related to the shooter.
Some fans are excited about the “Star Wars” shooter, which promises similarly good gunplay and gameplay as Apex Legends and Titanfall, but many are particularly concerned about this. Some fans of the Titanfall series have been patiently waiting for Titanfall 3 for years.
The announcements of so many titles in the Star Wars universe completely diminishes the hope for the realization of a Titanfall 3 among many fans, and at least for the next few years, it looks bleak for the Titan shooter.
Also, although it is not surprising, “people close to the project” revealed to the news website Venturebeat that Battlefront 3 is nearly dead with this announcement, as EA is moving all Star Wars projects to Respawn. This has also made some fans sad.
What do the fans say? Especially on Twitter, fans are already actively discussing the announcements. In just one hour, the Twitter post from well-informed Twitter account Nibellion was liked over 5,000 times and shared over 1,000 times. Many fans write under it (via Twitter).
