Apex Legends celebrates a huge success. This is likely due to the streamers who have made the game so popular. Now there is new information about the money paid to the biggest streamers on Twitch for this: Tyler “Ninja” Blevins is said to have received 1 million US dollars.
This is what the money was for: The biggest streamer in the world, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, was reportedly paid by EA for playing Apex Legends, according to new information from the news agency Reuters (via trust.org):
- Ninja emphasized during the streams that it was a sponsored stream.
- What was previously unknown is the amount of his payment. According to the source from Reuters, Ninja earned 1 million $ for his hours in streaming and some tweets. This corresponds to about twice what Ninja earns per month from Fortnite: Battle Royale, according to Reuters.
Ninja immediately tweeted about Apex Legends at the launch on February 5 and played it on his stream for thousands of viewers.
Is this confirmed? Neither Ninja nor EA wanted to confirm the amount Ninja received as payment directly.
Why the promo? According to EA’s Lead Producer for Apex Legends, Drew McCoy, this advertising campaign was meant to ensure that gaming enthusiasts should see Apex Legends everywhere for a day:
We wanted to create a day where you couldn’t escape Apex if you were interested in games, and we wanted it to feel like an event happening worldwide.
The EA representative said this in an interview on a different occasion to Reuters.
For this purpose, famous streamer Shroud was also hired. However, what Shroud received as payment is not known.
The concept apparently paid off: Apex Legends now has over 50 million players and has grown faster than Fortnite.
Reuters calculated that if every player only bought the starter pack of Apex Legends, it would already result in revenues of over 500 million dollars.
What’s next: It seems that Apex Legends does not want to rest on its great success. The first season with a Battle Pass is already planned for March, although there is still no release date for either.
However, fans are eagerly awaiting the Battle Pass and new content, so much so that they have reacted quite strongly when the Battle Pass did not appear on the suspected date of March 12.
