A new rumor is making the rounds. To hype up Borderlands 3, the predecessor might receive another DLC. This is expected to be announced during E3 2019.
Fans of the Borderlands series should pay attention, as with a bit of luck, you won’t have to wait until the release of Borderlands 3 in September to play new Borderlands content. Reports suggest that another DLC for Borderlands 2 could be released during the E3 weekend, filling in story gaps and leading into the new shooter.
Where does the info come from? The PlayStation Lifestyle page claims to have learned from an anonymous (but supposedly trustworthy) source that a new DLC for Borderlands 2 will be released during the E3 weekend. This DLC is reportedly titled “Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary”.
How likely is this? Gearbox is known for including small details that then come up in the next game or even lead into it. Something similar happened with Borderlands 1, where a DLC almost wiped out all Claptrap units. A “graveyard” of such Claptrap units was then the entry point for Borderlands 2.
A DLC could explain Sanctuary 2 and 3: It would also be quite fitting to have a DLC that tells the story of Sanctuary 2. Because we already know that Borderlands 3 will be set in “Sanctuary 3”. However, “Sanctuary 2” has never been mentioned before. Such a gap in the story could definitely be filled by a small but fine story DLC. It would be the perfect opportunity to get players ready for Borderlands 3.
What speaks against it? A small counterargument would be that Borderlands 2 is no longer the newest title in the Borderlands series. After all, “Borderlands The Pre-Sequel” was released later. However, this argument is lessened considering that Gearbox recently released a remastered version of Borderlands 2. So a new DLC would make sense.
But no matter how the truth ends up being – just the rumor itself is likely to further fuel the hype around Borderlands 3.
