Just before the E3 2021, there is a fresh leak mentioning a new Borderlands game. According to rumors, it is said to be a spinoff focused on the beloved NPC character Tiny Tina, which will be announced during the fair.
What’s the deal with the leak? The E3 2021 is starting soon – one of the most important video game fairs of the year. Just before it begins, more and more leaks and rumors are surfacing about which games may be presented, shown, or announced during the event.
Recently, a leaked game list from the distributor label 2K Games appeared on reddit. The list contains alleged information about new games from the publisher Take 2 Interactive, which are supposed to be announced at this year’s E3 and has even been confirmed by the renowned gaming journalist Jason Schreier.
And one entry on this list is particularly exciting for fans of the Borderlands series.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands – Cult character could get her own game
This is what the leak says: It looks like a new Borderlands spinoff could be announced soon. The project codename is Daffodil and it is supposed to focus on Tiny Tina, a popular character from the Borderlands series.
The final name could be “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands”, as Gearbox has already trademarked this name. Rumors about such a spinoff have been around since last year, but the announcement is now supposed to take place at E3 2021.
What kind of game could this be? Not much is known about it. The leak suggests that it should build on the style of previous Borderlands games, and players will be able to play as “multiclass heroes”.
Some speculate that it could also be a kind of standalone expansion for Borderlands 3 – in the style of the popular Borderlands 2 DLC Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep, but on a much larger scale.
In that DLC, Tiny Tina played as a kind of Dungeon Master and presented her own version of “Dungeons & Dragons” – “Bunkers & Badasses”. Here she guided the players like in a Pen & Paper RPG through the DLC, where the vault hunters suddenly found themselves in a fantasy setting and had to face dragons, wizards, dwarves, and other creatures, which many found to be really great.
Will it be the “next big thing” that the Gearbox boss was talking about? If the leak turns out to be correct, we hopefully will know more soon.
Who is Tiny Tina, anyway? Fans of the series won’t need much explaining. For everyone else: Tiny Tina is an NPC character who makes her first appearance in Borderlands 2. Although she is “just” a side character, she is likely remembered by most players for her particularly eccentric personality. For her 13 years, she is pretty independent and doesn’t hesitate to blow up trains or execute someone on an electric chair who has effectively caused her parents’ deaths.
In short: Although she is chaotic, brutal, and funny, she also has dark, emotional, and serious sides. And this mix makes her one of the most beloved characters in the series for many.
