On the evening of June 15, the E3 2021 concludes with the Nintendo Direct and the awards – and there have been no new announcements from Sony. Because Sony is not participating in E3 this year again. Fortunately, there are more events coming up. MeinMMO reveals when and what you can watch after E3.
Where is Sony at E3? Sony has not participated in E3 since 2018. Hence, there are also no announcements from the company behind PlayStation in 2021.
Sony has been focusing on its own events, their State of Play, which the Japanese company initiates independently. In some cases, these State of Play events are connected to larger events, but this was not the case for E3 2021.
What events are coming up? The next State of Play from Sony is still to come, even though new announcements were made on May 27. However, there are more events like EA Play and gamescom where new games will be presented in the coming months.
We will introduce you to the events and show you what announcements we expect. Please note that these are currently speculations and rumors, not confirmed titles that will be shown.
Sony: State of Play – Date unknown
What could be shown?
- more about God of War – possibly even gameplay
- a new Gran Turismo
- details about Horizon Forbidden West – the reveal was already made and caused a stir
- the new IP from Days Gone creator Bend as a highlight of the show
- possibly an Uncharted 5
- there are also rumors about a remake of The Last of Us
God of War: Ragnarok is delayed to 2022, but to hype the fans a bit, some gameplay scenes or at least details about the title are definitely conceivable. Also, there hasn’t been anything new about the racing game Gran Turismo for a while. After Forza Horizon 5 received a good reception at E3, there would definitely be room for more racing games.
The new IP from Bend has been a topic at Sony for some time now. What exactly will be shown here is still unknown.

When will the next State of Play come? Speculations here range from “later in June” to catch the hype of E3, to “during EA Play in July” and a very vague “sometime in the coming months.” A concrete timeframe cannot be established.
EA Play – July 22, 2021
What could be shown?
- Madden 22 and FIFA 22
- further details on the already presented Battlefield 2042
- Gameplay and a release for Dragon Age 4 – but without multiplayer
- New information on Apex Legends and Star Wars
- EA Originals, the indie division of EA
Dragon Age 4 has been in development for some time and the series, along with Mass Effect, is EA’s flagship RPG. Many fans are waiting for details here. Information about the racing games DiRT, Project CARS and Need for Speed as well as about Titanfall 3, on the other hand, is rather unlikely.
gamescom – August 25–27, 2021
What will gamescom 2021 show?
- Opening Night Live with Geoff Keighley and many announcements on August 25
- new hardware and games
- Community scavenger hunt on social media
- Discussions about development, technologies, and design
gamescom 2021 will take place completely digitally and in a compressed form. Instead of the usual five days, there will only be three days of new content this year. However, the Opening Night Live (ONL) will take place again, which you should pay special attention to.
Traditionally, the ONL bundles the biggest and most important announcements in a spectacular show. However, no exhibitors are known yet – we don’t know exactly what will be shown.
More gaming events and when they will take place
- WitcherCon – July 9
- Tennocon 2021 – July 17
- Dream Con 2021 – July 23–24
- DreamHack Beyond – July 24–31
- DoKomi 2021 – August 7–8
- PAX West 2021 – September 3–6
- Zurich Game Show – November 12–14
- Games Week Perlin Pro X 2021 – November 23–25
Although many conventions this year are only taking place online and developments are delaying, you can still look forward to numerous new announcements throughout the summer. However, whether the respective events will also be able to excite will remain to be seen. Because some publishers apparently did not succeed:
This is why the Square Enix conference at E3 2021 was a complete disappointment
