Dying Light 2 has finally announced a release date and has dropped an almost eight-minute trailer with cinematic gameplay. It starts on December 7 on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
When does Dying Light 2 come out? Dying Light 2 will be released on December 7, 2021, for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Pre-orders are available now for all platforms.
What is Dying Light 2? The survival co-op game is the sequel to the popular Dying Light, which impressed with parkour elements and strong graphics. You do not need to have played the predecessor to understand the story of Dying Light 2 or enjoy the game.
Dying Light 2 takes place 15 years after the apocalypse of the first part and tells the story set in the future of Earth. You play as Aiden Caldwell, an infected survivor searching for answers to the questions of his past.
To do this, you travel to one of the last human settlements that still exist on Earth. You try to survive, but quickly find out that the world is overwhelmed by zombies.
Trailer shows new gameplay and features
This is what the gameplay looks like: The majority of the game will consist of parkour gameplay, just like in Dying Light 1. Since the city is overrun by zombies, you are constantly on the move, sprinting over rooftops, scaffolding, and other obstacles at top speed.
You diligently climb up facades or jump over abysses to avoid being chased by enemies. Moreover, the game is divided into day and night: during the day, there are people on the streets; at night, you encounter dangerous monsters and zombies that have had 15 years to mutate.
If you venture out at night, you can grab particularly strong loot from nests. If a fight occurs, the focus here is on melee combat, because there is exactly one gun: a shotgun.
The melee combat is set to be really good, and the first scenes show spectacular decapitations and many flying body parts – sometimes several with just one strike. According to the video, the developers wanted the combat to feel good.
What other features are there to see? The details of the trailer hide some additional features that Dying Light 2 will apparently have:
- a glider for aerial movement
- grappling hooks for combat, similar to Scorpion from Mortal Kombat
- various skills and abilities that can apparently be developed
- stealth gameplay if you want to ambush human NPCs
Additionally, there will be three factions with developed, unique NPCs and deeper stories. Survivors are people simply trying to rebuild the city. Peacekeepers are former soldiers with a strong sense of justice. Renegades are former prisoners where only strength matters.
Depending on which factions you help or harm, you can change the cityscape. During the day, you will also find plenty of human NPCs, crooks, and looters in the city who want to harm you.
In advance, there was already information about a co-op mode for Dying Light 2. However, nothing about this is visible in the new gameplay.
