The upcoming zombie survival game Dying Light 2 is already available as a retail version before its release for some of you. But even though you can play it now, the developers ask you to refrain from doing so. According to them, there are good reasons for this. Find out all about it here on MeinMMO.
Why can you play Dying Light 2 before release? Dying Light 2 releases on February 4, 2022. However, some versions of the game have already hit retail as physical editions or were delivered too early to pre-order customers. Those who have managed to grab such a version could theoretically play the game right now.
Even the recently implemented and controversially discussed copy protection Denuvo should not pose any problems here.
Rather, the developers implore you to wait until February 4.
Developers want you to play the game as intended
What do the developers say? The developers do not want to forbid you from playing early. But they politely ask you not to do so and to wait until the release. In a tweet, they also explain why:
According to developer Techland, various patches and fixes will still come into the game upon release, which should provide the gaming experience that the developers have envisioned for the game.
If you want to experience Dying Light 2 as the developers intended, you should wait until Friday and not spoil the game with an unfinished version.
What do the players say? There were lively comments under the tweet regarding the developers’ request to the fans:
- AP wonders why there even has to be fixes at release: “A day-one patch shouldn’t be necessary.”
- Daniel questions what the reviewers are actually playing: “What about all the reviewers? Do they have a day-one patch? Otherwise, they’re not playing the game as it was intended.”
- For user HL, the matter is clear: “You know they [the players] won’t wait.”
- Brandon Moore states: “Just release it already, damn it!”
So those who are among the lucky ones that could play Dying Light 2 already might be roaming around in the zombie apocalypse, collecting tons of weapons and taking down the undead.
