Tomorrow is finally the release of Dying Light 2: Stay Human. At launch, the developers have announced a hefty Day-1 patch that aims to fix over 1000 bugs. MeinMMO summarizes for you what will be improved at launch.
That’s why you shouldn’t play until tomorrow: By now, it is known that some players have already received the survival game and can start playing.
But developer Techland recently asked players to please wait until the official release. Because only with the release patch can players play Dying Light 2 as the creators intended.
But what exactly is going to be fixed at launch? According to the developers, the update is supposed to contain over 1,000 fixes. There are no exact patch notes yet, but Techland has now given a small insight into this.
Update, February 4, 10:53: We have expanded the article with the patch notes.
Day-1 Patch for Dying Light 2 focuses mainly on stability
This is supposed to be included in the Day-1 Patch: The Day-1 patch addresses numerous issues in the game. These include some more severe bugs that can block progress, or technical issues like frame rate drops and overall stability.

How large is the download? The size of the patch is about 2.5 GB, which is manageable. However, the download size may vary depending on the platform.
The statement says:
As with almost all modern games, our journey as developers does not end when we distribute copies to critics or on the day of release. We will support Dying Light 2 with new content for at least five years, and every step of the way we will actively listen to the community and carefully work to fix any bugs that are discovered while players experience our most ambitious game yet.
For those who are wondering: Yes, streamers and media were able to play Dying Light 2 weeks before release. We at MeinMMO also had the opportunity to do so. We initially received an early version, which was then patched to the standard version this week. However, this was no different from the version that is currently circulating.
The developers also addressed this. They stated that even the version being delivered now is already significantly better than the one testers received 2 weeks ago, even without the Day-1 patch.
Note: This statement also matches my experiences with the early version, which has since been patched from beta to the normal version.
By the way: The developers have already confirmed in advance that the serious fast travel bug that blocked story progression is also supposed to be fixed. How Dying Light 2 plays otherwise, you’ll find out in my preview report:
Dying Light 2 will be released tomorrow and receives positive ratings before release, but also criticism
Dying Light 2 has been received so far: On Metacritic, Dying Light 2 achieved a solid meta score of 79 on PC. The reviews especially praise the parkour system, but also the story and combat system.
However, there are also testers who were less impressed by the story and found the technical state of the game to be a negative aspect. How this will look after the Day-1 patch remains to be seen.
We have summarized some voices on Dying Light 2 in an overview on Metacritic.
Recently, the community was also upset by a recently introduced feature. Because just before release, Dying Light 2 introduced the unpopular Denuvo anti-piracy protection.
This has caused problems in numerous games in the past. It is said to slow down PCs and even reduce the lifespan of SSDs.
If you’re also interested in what happens after release: The developers have already published a roadmap for their content plan until June. Overall, Dying Light 2 is supposed to receive support for over 5 years:
