Dying Light 2 is currently thrilling hundreds of thousands of players and most of them are having fun. However, a small group is currently complaining loudly: Some Italians are offended because there is no Italian voiceover. For their criticism, they are ridiculed.
What is the current status on Metacritic? Since release, Dying Light 2 has received good reviews between 70 and 80 points from the press. Most testers are enthusiastic, especially praising the story of the game.
Many players are also excited. On Steam, the game has about 81% positive reviews and in our test, Dying Light 2 was also able to convince us from MeinMMO. You can find our preview here: I played 45 hours of Dying Light 2 – How brutal is the cut version still?
However, player reviews on Metacritic are currently striking. The game has only between 4.1 and 6.1 points of approval, depending on the platform. Mainly two problems are addressed.
Where do the bad ratings come from? One of the biggest problems seems to be technical difficulties. The annoying copy protection, non-functioning co-op, or poor performance on Xbox are some of the most common reasons that Techland is already working on.
Another group of players, however, is loudly complaining that there is no Italian voiceover. Dying Light 1 still had that and there are, after all, two different Spanish voiceovers, but no Italian.
A user on reddit has gathered some of the responses. It is stated, for example, by a user who gave 0 points on Metacritic: “I think Techland has deliberately taken measures to remove Italian from the voiceover for the sole reason of mocking our country.”
The anger over Dying Light 2 due to the lack of voiceover, however, meets more ridicule than approval in the community.
Fans ridicule: Just play with subtitles
This is how the community reacts: Many users on reddit are criticizing the critics. They say, for example: If they can already complain in English, they can also play in English. Or like everyone else without native voiceover, just use subtitles.
Supposedly Italian users are embarrassed for their compatriots. There are even cynical comparisons with other languages like Urdu or Zulu – they also have no localization. A particularly sarcastic user even suggests creating a mod filled with stereotypes.
Even if such a suggestion certainly goes too far, it shows that the topic moves the community. Apparently unfounded bad ratings anger fans who enjoy the game.
What’s next? Techland is already working on a series of new updates and patches for the upcoming time on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Among them are mainly performance and co-op improvements as well as bug fixes. There is still no information about an Italian voiceover.
In the next 6 months, the Switch version of Dying Light 2 is also scheduled to be released. And the developers have already revealed in a roadmap what to expect after release:
