In an appearance in Ghost Recon Wildlands, Sam Fisher realizes that he is the last stealth hero.
The video game hero “Sam Fisher” is currently celebrating a sort of comeback in Ghost Recon Wildlands. With the new update for Ubisoft’s open-world tactical game, Fisher pays a visit and is involved in important missions. During his appearance, he realizes that his comrades have already disappeared. It gets emotional.
Sam Fisher mourns Solid Snake
Unfortunately, Sam Fisher is not celebrating his return in a new Splinter Cell game, but in Ghost Recon Wildlands. He plays an important role in the fresh Special Operation update of Wildlands.
Warning – Spoilers for Ghost Recon Wildlands follow.
In a scene in the game, it gets emotional. Sam Fisher explains that there are no characters like him to be found anymore. “There was this other guy,” Fisher says, “… with a bandana or something.” He is then told that this “other guy” has retired, and Sam realizes that it is now very lonely in the land of video game stealth heroes.
When Fisher understands this, he pauses briefly, losing the power in his voice. The voice actor Michael Ironside, whom you already know from earlier games as the voice of Sam Fisher, puts a lot of emotion into the lines.
You can watch the scene in the following video:
The other guy mentioned in the video is apparently Solid Snake, whom you know from the Metal Gear series. “Army Infiltration” and “bandana” should provide the key hints here. That he has “retired” could refer to the end of Metal Gear Solid 5 – perhaps also to Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami.
This is not the first time that Splinter Cell brings a reference to Metal Gear – and vice versa – into the game. The following video from Doctor Gamma shows some Easter eggs of the two characters.
Does Ubisoft want to suggest with this appearance that Sam Fisher still has a big future ahead of him? At least fans have been given hope with this appearance.
Also guest-starring in Ghost Recon Wildlands are other big names like the Predator
