The two dwarf games Dwarf Fortress and Deep Rock Galactic teamed up and demanded in a dwarf uprising that “Dwarves” must become a separate tag on Steam. Valve resisted – but in vain. On February 2nd, they gave in.
This was the demand:
- The two successful games with dwarves as main characters on Steam, Dwarf Fortress and Deep Rock Galactic, demanded from Steam that “Dwarf” must be its own tag, with which games can be marked on Steam.
- Because if “Werewolves” or “Vampires” have their own tags, then that should certainly apply to dwarves as well.
- Steam rejected this: Elves are not a tag either. But the dwarves felt even more incited by this and said: We don’t care, dwarves are much cooler.
“Dwarves of all games unite!”
This was the plan: Steam had indicated to the developers: If enough players would start using “Dwarves” as a tag for games, then they could add the tag.
The dwarves then called upon their players on January 31st to use the tag “Dwarf”, then Steam would recognize the value of the “Dwarf” tag.
Steam “trolls” dwarves first with Elf tag, then gives in
This was Steam’s response: On February 1st, Steam had some fun and first added the tag “Elf”.
When the dwarves indignantly wrote about it, they then gave in on February 2nd and also added “Dwarf”.
The dwarves cheered, but they are, as everyone knows, greedy little bastards and now demand that the tag “Rock” must also be urgently added to Steam.
Other members of marginalized groups on Steam now look enviously at the dwarves and demand their own hashtags: For instance, demands from the crab game “Another Crab’s Treasure” for a “Crab tag” are now being voiced.
How is it in practice? “Dwarf Fortress” and “Deep Rock Galactic” are now both actually marked with “Dwarf”, even in the German version. Apparently, the translation is still missing here.
