The Book of Exalted Deeds is a sacred work about the good in the multiverse and appears in many religions. It does not contain dogmas but rather wisdom on overcoming evil.
The book never stays long in one place – as soon as it is read, it disappears and reappears elsewhere where it is needed. Only a pure-hearted being that connects with the book can open it and gain its power after 80 hours of study.
Demons, undead, or servitors of lesser gods trying to read it suffer 24D6 radiant damage, which ignores all resistances. Those who die from it vanish in a flash of light.
The granted powers remain only as long as the reader does good. Anyone who fails to perform a noble deed for 10 days or intentionally does evil loses the blessing of the book.
Those attuned to the book gain immunity to being “Charmed” and “Frightened” and resistance to psychic damage. These advantages remain permanent if you invest the full 80 hours to read it. Additionally, after this time, your Wisdom score increases permanently by 2 to a maximum of 24 – but only once.
Particularly powerful for spellcasters is its ability to automatically cast spells at a higher spell level, provided the study time is completed. Also practical is the halo you receive from your studies. Not only does it shine brightly, but it also protects you.
As a bonus action, you can cause the halo to appear or disappear. When visible, you have advantage on Persuasion checks and fiends as well as undead have disadvantage on attack rolls against you.
This book cannot be destroyed. However, you can weaken it by bathing it in the River Styx. This causes its contents to disappear, and it becomes unusable for 1D100 years.
