With the “True Polymorph” spell, you have a whole potpourri at your disposal to bend the shape of your friends or enemies to your will. Choose a target, either a creature or a non-magical object within range of the spell.
If your target wishes to be transformed, the spell goes through without any issues; if you want to transform your target against its will, a Wisdom saving throw is required for the target – if it fails, it is transformed and has little ability to resist.
You can then transform the target into another creature or a non-magical object. Creatures can also become objects and objects can become creatures, as long as they are not being worn at the time of transformation. In doing so, the target also assumes the statistics of the new form. This creates not only useful but also very powerful opportunities to influence the world around you.
The spell lasts either for the intended duration of one hour or until the target dies or is destroyed. If you manage to maintain your concentration on the spell for the full duration and your target remains in that form, the spell will persist beyond that until you dispel it.
This makes the spell particularly powerful, as you can, if desired, cause the spell to last indefinitely – even beyond the death of your own character – as long as you manage to maintain concentration for the hour and your target is not killed or destroyed in the meantime.
