The coronavirus is a major topic in Pokémon GO. Developer Niantic allows trainers to play better from home, but a big problem arises: Where do I get all the balls from?
These are the corona measures: Niantic has done a lot to make it easier to play Pokémon GO from one’s own house. There are more spawns among other things, and the item incense brings more Pokémon and lasts longer.
All this sounds good and certainly allows many players to play more effectively from home. However, this cannot last long, as eventually the Poké Balls will run out.
Corona crisis leads to Poké Ball problem
Here lies the problem: Pokémon are plentiful to catch, but if you don’t have a PokéStop right outside your door, you will quickly run out of balls.
The consequence: You have to go outside and spin PokéStops again. At least you want to have enough balls to use the free incense at least.
How could one handle the problem? There are several options. Here are some suggestions:
- You can open more than 20 gifts and thus receive more Poké Balls
- The balls from the gifts are increased – potions are reduced
- PokéStops bring more Poké Balls, so you don’t have to spin a lot of stops to replenish your supply
- The cost of Poké Balls in the shop is reduced
These are, of course, all measures that must be made by Niantic itself. Especially through gifts, one could quickly reduce the ball shortage.
What can be done so far against the ball shortage? The easiest option is to buy balls in the shop. However, they are quite expensive and certainly not a long-term solution.
Otherwise, you can also already get balls by opening gifts. So remember to open your maximum number of gifts daily.

What else is being done against the coronavirus? Niantic has taken some precautions to contain the virus:
- EX-Raids are canceled and the PvP league works without walking kilometers
- The Community Day on Sunday has been canceled
- The egg distance has been halved
