Niantic, the developer of Pokémon GO, is doing its part to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. There are various bonuses that encourage you not to leave the house.
Update March 14: There are now two more measures against the spread of the coronavirus. You can find them here.
What has changed? There are various bonuses that you can take advantage of from home. One should not have the temptation to go outside because of this event as a potentially infected person.
We give you an overview of what you can use from home now.
These measures are effective immediately
What Niantic is changing: To make it easier to play from home, Niantic has now implemented some changes. The following things are now available:
- More Pokémon will spawn, so you don’t have to walk far for many catches
- The item Incense is available in the shop for 30x for just one PokéCoin
- Incense lasts for one hour worldwide
- Gifts are now more frequent from PokéStops
- The distance of eggs is halved
- The biomes of Pokémon are relaxed, allowing for a greater variety of Pokémon
Do these measures make a difference? Of course, it is now easier to play from home, as especially the Incense attracts Pokémon everywhere.
However, the many Incenses do not help if you do not have Poké Balls. You will need to go outside to collect Balls. The reduced egg distance is nice, but it cannot really be utilized from home. You need to go outside for that too.
Some of these measures have already been implemented in the countries Italy, South Korea, and Japan. Several events have already been canceled there.
Can you utilize more from home? A major factor is the new PvP League, which starts on March 13 at 10:00 PM. Here you can also compete against trainers from all over the world from home.
