The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is extensive and colorful. This also includes NPCs, meaning those characters in the game world who are not players. MeinMMO author Larissa Then reveals to you which 5 NPCs she finds the funniest.
The Elder Scrolls Online is incredibly versatile and has a vast game world. There you encounter all kinds of colorful characters, and with each chapter or DLC, there are a few more. Among them are drunken cats, womanizers, and a man with a cooking pot as a hat.
It often happens that in new addons, you even meet old acquaintances again and can experience a whole new quest with them. I especially enjoy that with a few NPCs, meaning characters who are not players. I actually have 5 that I find incredibly funny and love to see regularly.
1. Razum-Dar
What kind of NPC is this? Razum-Dar, who is briefly called Raz, is a spy and known as the Eye of Queen Ayrenn. He is a Khajiit and a charming interrogation specialist. Allegedly, you don’t even notice that you are being questioned by him. Raz is not just skilled with people; he can also always slip away unnoticed.
Moreover, the Khajiit is a ladies’ man and doesn’t let any opportunity pass by. In one quest, which is one of my favorite quests in ESO, it even comes out that he still has several fiancées from the past – uncomfortable.
What makes this NPC so funny? Just Razum-Dar’s entire presence brings a smile to my face. He always has funny sayings ready and is simply a controversial figure.
His family thinks he is a good-for-nothing who only travels from tavern to tavern. However, he is one of the most important confidants of the queen and a very talented agent. The conversations that arise between him and his family are hilarious. You can check out one of them in the video:
When it comes to women, he often talks big and gets himself into trouble. Now you can even have Razum-Dar’s offspring as a pet, because he actually wants to get rid of it and hangs it on you.
2. Sheogorath
What kind of NPC is this? Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness in The Elder Scrolls. Due to some developments in his past, he has a split personality.
This makes Sheogorath both very dangerous and incredibly funny. He can help you or make your existence a hell, depending on his mood and what he thinks of you.
What makes this NPC so funny? The funny thing about Sheogorath is his split nature and his associated sayings. He is really quite crazy, just my kind of humor. For example, during your first encounter in ESO, he offers you a book in exchange for a lung or a heart – tempting, isn’t it?
Later in Elsweyr, he reappears as a cat, and those who know him can see through the Alfiq quite quickly. Sheogorath plays a crazy game with you, particularly affecting the priests of the Two Moons, whom he manipulates.
You must prevent them, among other things, from sticking a fork in their eye. This is accompanied by dialogues filled with plenty of dark humor. You can check out the quest and the conversations in the video:
3. Rigurt the Reckless
What kind of NPC is this? Rigurt the Reckless is a Nord diplomat. However, he doesn’t do this job very well. He is quite naive and clumsy, which often makes others feel it.
Although he means well, he keeps digging himself deeper by expressing himself wrongly or offering the wrong gifts. He is also very forgetful, especially when drinking, and he drinks every day.
What makes this NPC so funny? And that’s the funny part. I never quite know whether to feel sorry for him or to be embarrassed.
It’s so surreal what happens to him, and it’s mostly self-inflicted. For example, he bakes bread so hard that it supposedly strengthens the teeth of guests, but that obviously does not work at all. Due to the horrified question of what is inside, he thinks one wants to know his recipe.
This is not the only blunder he makes. As a gift, Rigurt brings cat fur – and that to the cat-like Khajiit. And as if that weren’t macabre enough, they smell unbelievably of cabbage from the shipping. You can check out the conversation in the video:
4. Sereyne
What kind of NPC is this? Sereyne is an alcoholic and constantly drunk Alfiq mage. Alfiq are one of more than 17 subspecies of Khajiit and the NPC is known from the quest “Like Attracts Like”.
She is a very capable mage and is supposed to help you with the mission. Unfortunately, her alcoholism and constant drunkenness seriously interfere with this.
What makes this NPC so funny? And that is exactly what makes Sereyne so funny. She is supposed to be a powerful mage and she really has quite a few skills.
Unfortunately, she tends to be extremely confused, which often causes teleporting to go wrong. And when one sets out on a mission as a mage, one often has to cast spells. You can check out how amusing the cat appears in the video:
5. Sir Cadwell
What kind of NPC is this? Now let’s talk about my absolute favorite, Sir Cadwell. You meet him early on in the first tutorial in the prison. How you start the main story, you can find out in our guide.
He is the oldest, if not the first, soul-snatched in Coldharbour and helps you escape from prison. Because he has been there for so long, he knows every corner of the realm by heart.
In his lifetime, he was an imperial knight until his head was cut off and he was soulless. The memory of his past has long faded, and he seems confused yet competent.
What makes this NPC so funny? I laughed the first time I saw Cadwell in the tutorial. He wears a very unusual helmet, namely a cooking pot.
Later, he doesn’t just protect himself with the cooking pot, but has a complete suit of armor made of kitchen utensils, which you could also acquire in the game. The pretty helmet that Sir Cadwell wears can still be earned. In the guide, you can find out how to get Cadwell’s Helmet of Heroism.
And the dialogues with him are certainly not disappointing. He is a powerful knight and a very clever man. However, you notice little of that because he is so confused. This is also reflected in really funny dialogues.
When he later reappears in Elsweyr, he wonders, for example, how one can live in such a green world. He is simply too used to the surroundings in Coldharbour. You can check out how a conversation with Cadwell goes in the video:
The Elder Scrolls Online has even more cool characters and exciting stories. But these 5 comrades are, for me, the funniest characters.
