In the MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria, there is supposed to be an interesting and unusual event that brings three years of darkness.
MMO fans sometimes argue about how long the day-night cycle in a game should last. Those who prefer the bright day must prepare for a somewhat unusual event in Chronicles of Elyria. This event is called “The Longest Night” and will bring three years of night.
A Long Time of Darkness
The three years will of course be calculated in game time, yet it should take a relatively long time until the sun will be seen again.
One year in Chronicles of Elyria lasts four “Earth days,” making this “Longest Night” about 12 days long.
The event takes place at certain times when the star constellations reach a specific position. The planet Selene moves in front of the sun, leading to this long night. Precisely speaking, it will only be completely dark for one year, the other two years will then be in twilight.
Cooperation is Important
The event also brings some challenges for the players. During this time, survival is paramount, which means players will have to cooperate even more than they should already be doing. During the “Longest Night,” disputes should therefore also be set aside, although this dark time might be best suited for treacherous attacks. Nevertheless, the developers hope that players will engage in togetherness and cooperation.
The event occurs every 52 years in-game. So, it will not constantly bring this long darkness. During the event, many festivals take place, which unfold differently depending on the culture in the game world.
The MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria is making good progress. Some selected players are already participating in a pre-alpha.
