The controversial Twitch streamer DrDisrespect interrupted his stream of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on Monday. He says shots were fired at his house.
Who is DrDisrespect? Guy Beahm is a former game developer who worked on the “Call of Duty” series.
As the character “DrDisrespect,” he wears a wig, a powerful mustache, and sunglasses. He is a kind of “mega-macho” who considers himself the greatest and maintains a bombastic self-presentation.
His fans love him. With the rise of PUBG in 2017, the Doc’s star began to rise as well. 2017 was his year on Twitch.
This happened yesterday: Yesterday he streamed the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Suddenly, he interrupted the stream and was gone for a short while. When he returned, he did so without his wig and sunglasses.
He said:
Ladies and gentlemen. I have to end the broadcast right now. Someone shot at our house and broke the damn window on the first floor. This is already the second shot. Someone shot yesterday. Someone shot at our damn house yesterday! And someone shot again – on the first floor.
Beahm says the shooter shot while driving by.
Police confirm: Various gaming sites contacted the local police (via Polygon). And indeed, they confirmed that an officer was on site. This was already the second call to the local authorities that someone had fired at the family’s house.
Doctor’s statement: The Doc has since made a statement on Twitter: He writes, no one was hurt. The situation is now being handled appropriately. This means, the local police are working on resolving the case.
He and his family thank the fans for their concerns and kind words. In the meantime, DrDisrespect will continue to stream.
The incident gains additional urgency as only a few weeks ago, people died from gunfire at an eSports tournament:
