Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm was once one of the biggest streamers on Twitch. However, in June 2020, he was permanently banned. For a long time, the reasons for the ban were unclear. Now, on the evening of June 25, the streamer speaks out about accusations from a former employee of Twitch and it doesn’t look good for him.
This article has been created in a breaking manner and has been supplemented several times.
This is the situation:
- The permanent ban of the former Twitch star DrDisrespect has puzzled for years
- On June 22, 2024, almost exactly 4 years after the ban, a former Twitch employee claimed that Doc had been banned for exchanging inappropriate messages with a minor – DrDisrespect denied the accusations and pointed out that the dispute with Twitch had been settled and they had paid him out his contract
- On June 24, 2024, the streamer was finally thrown out of his own gaming studio, he reportedly learned the news in the middle of a stream and announced an indefinite break
On the night of June 25, DrDisrespect finally published another statement on X.
DrDisrespect confirms accusations but relativizes them: “I’m not a pedo”
What kind of statement is this? In his post, DrDisrespect confirms that he indeed exchanged private messages with a minor in 2017. These messages were “sometimes too far in the direction of being inappropriate,” the streamer explains.
However, he emphasizes that there were no “real intentions” behind the messages. Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were exchanged, no crimes were committed. DrDisrespect explicitly states that he did not meet with the person.
The streamer repeatedly points out that his behavior would have been legally acceptable. Although he had a civil dispute with Twitch over his contract, he was never prosecuted criminally.
From a moral standpoint, however, DrDisrespect admits to wrongdoing. As an adult, as a husband, as a father, he should never have had these conversations. But he also says:
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen all the comments and labels that are thrown around so freely. Social media is a zone of destruction. I’m not a damn sex offender or pedophile. Are you kidding me? Anyone who really knows me knows how I feel about these kinds of people. Screw that. That’s a whole different level of disgust that I don’t even want to hear about. Don’t call me the worst of the worst with your exaggerations. Get lost with that shit.
Despite everything, the streamer does not want to end his career: He refers again to a “long vacation” that he wants to take with his family. However, he wants to stream again afterward. “They want me to disappear… yeah, like that’s going to happen,” DrDisrespect concludes.
Whether the streamer will still have a career to return to is currently uncertain.
Long-time companions turn away
How is the statement received? Not particularly well. In the comments, many users make it clear that they are not very interested in the extensive statement when the core remains that there were inappropriate messages between the streamer and a minor.
Even fellow content creators are distancing themselves from DrDisrespect. Nickmercs and TimTheTatMan almost simultaneously released videos on X, in which they appear shirtless and distance themselves from the streamer.
Nickmercs calls DrDisrespect’s behavior “unacceptable” and explains: They have played a lot together, and it feels like a weird feeling now (via X). TimTheTatMan states: If these messages really existed in the form described by the streamer, he could not support that (via X).
Business partners end collaboration
Furthermore, business partners have ended their collaboration with DrDisrespect. The manufacturer of gaming headsets Turtle Beach announced the termination of the partnership with the streamer that had existed since 2020, but did not comment further. The merchandise page on the company’s website seems to have been removed.
After DrDisrespect was already officially kicked out of the gaming studio Midnight Society, which he co-founded, the studio head has now also published a personal statement on his X account. It simply states: “If you send inappropriate messages to a minor, I cannot work with you. Period.”
It is therefore questionable whether DrDisrespect will actually be able to return to streaming after his “break” as if nothing had happened. The strategy of letting the matter fade for a while to then celebrate a comeback was also intended by two German influencers: How €2.50 is causing chaos in German Twitch and leading to the career end of 2 influencers
