The Twitch streamer Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm became serious for a moment during a stream and explained to a viewer who is going through a tough time that he himself was in crisis three and a half years ago before he became DrDisrespect. This was previously unknown about his start as a streamer.
That is what makes it special: Normally, there is little room for serious tones with DrDisrespect. The streamer is “full-time” in his role as a macho streamer, in which there is little room for weaknesses. His character is all about success, kills, and speed. The emotions he usually displays are anger or triumph.
But in a stream, a viewer told the Doctor that he suffers from depression and panic attacks, and then DrDisrespect became serious.
This is what he says about his career: The Doctor says that three and a half years ago he was unemployed, his child was not even a year old, and they lived in a small apartment. When he opened the curtains, he could see that drugs were being dealt outside.
At that time, DrDisrespect was unemployed, looking for a job in the video game industry. But no one wanted him with his resume. It was a tough time:
“Then we decided to jump in full here. But that was … well, forget it. I don’t want to start with that now.”
Then the Doctor pulls himself together for a moment, saying: “It’s just a temporary phase.” By the end of the clip, he is roaring again and fully in character.
Was Twitch not Plan A?
What does the Doctor mean by that? Beahm started becoming a content creator in 2010, initially on YouTube. However, he had a job at Sledgehammer Games between 2011 and 2015. First as a community manager for Call of Duty, and later as a level designer. He worked on some maps for Advanced Warfare.
In September 2015, he announced his departure from Call of Duty. That was four years ago, half a year before the crisis that he now describes in the Twitch stream.
Until now, it was believed that Beahm had left on his own accord to actively become a Twitch streamer and pursue this career. However, after the current clip, it seems rather that he was looking for another job in the months after and that he was not doing well financially during that time.
This does not sound like the career as “DrDisrespect” was his Plan A.
Nevertheless, the decision to become a full-time streamer paid off, certainly by 2017, when with the rise of PUBG, the Twitch channel of DrDisrespect also shot up.
The crisis was really just “a temporary phase” for him. Today, he is one of the most successful streamers on the Twitch platform.
