The gaming streamer DrDisrespect was seen back on YouTube on Friday, September 6, 2024, after a break of 74 days. His stream began with a statement regarding his Twitch ban in 2020 and the aftermath of that ban, which destroyed his career two months ago.
These are the allegations against DrDisrespect:
On June 22, former Twitch employee Cody Conners posted a tweet: “He was banned because he was caught sexting a minor through the Twitch system. He wanted to try to meet her at TwitchCon. The powerful could read that in plain text.”
Cody Conners did not name names, but it was clear that he
was referring to DrDisrespect, who was banned from Twitch in 2020.
Other Twitch employees later confirmed these allegations, stating that DrDisrespect was also reported to a youth protection agency in the USA. He knew that his conversation partner was a minor. The conversations took place in 2017 – DrDisrespect was banned in 2020, shortly after Twitch launched an offensive to investigate precisely such cases.
Our video on DrDisrespect reflects the state of the case before the current developments:
DrDisrespect goes on “vacation” for 74 days after failing to refute the allegations
This is what DrDisrespect said in response to the allegations: DrDisrespect initially said that the case was investigated and he and Twitch had agreed that no one would admit to any wrongdoing. However, his contract was paid out.
Later, as the pressure increased, DrDisrespect confessed that he had exchanged messages with a “single minor person,” which occasionally crossed into inappropriate territory.
As a result, his partners and his gaming studio parted ways with him, YouTube demonetized his channel, and he went on “vacation” for 74 days.
DrDisrespect lashes out against Twitch
This is what DrDisrespect says now: DrDisrespect, who was previously on the defensive, immediately goes on the offensive:
He says Cody Conners is a “rat” who has revealed internal matters that were confidential for no reason. He must know how the internet reacts to such things.
Conners knows nothing about the case, was not present. And apparently has no idea what “sexting” is. DrDisrespect, in any case, did not engage in “sexting” – it was just banter.
Every single investigation of the case has shown that he did nothing wrong back then, emphasizes the 42-year-old. It was only when his statements were taken out of context that Twitch officials banned him under pressure without knowing all the facts. The investigation that led to the ban lasted only an hour and was based on handpicked
excerpts from the conversations.
The security team and the legal system admitted in a later internal investigation that there was nothing to the “sexting” allegations.
The person in question, whom DrDisrespect only calls the “Twitch user,” had already reached the age at which they can determine their own sexuality. This person did not submit a report on their own but only when pressured.
He never intended to meet the person – these are all “bullshit accusations”:
Cody Conners and these other anonymous sources want to create the image that I exchanged sexually explicit messages and images with this Twitch user. That never happened.
Why couldn’t he say that earlier? DrDisrespect says he was under a confidentiality agreement, which no longer applies because one party breached the agreement unilaterally.
DrDisrespect says he should never have been banned due to out-of-context jokes
What did he do then? He speaks of mutual banter with inappropriate jokes
, which were taken out of context.
This should never have led to his ban. In fact, the initial investigation had actually been settled; it was only reopened because a Twitch employee conducted a personal vendetta against him and abused his contacts in Twitch’s legal department to reopen the case.
Just because these jokes were taken out of context is why he was banned back then. Any conversation can look terrible if only individual sentences are removed from context and shown to someone else for evaluation.
Later, those very people who banned him admitted in an investigation, however, that it was not sexting
.
DrDisrespect sees former Twitch partner manager
as his main adversary
Who does he believe is to blame for his troubles? DrDisrespect apparently had a number of problems with former employees at Twitch. Especially one former partner manager seems to have it out for him. This person reportedly did nothing for DrDisrespect and his community for years.
This partner manager would allegedly have learned about the messages three years later and then tried everything to have DrDisrespect banned, using personal contacts to the legal department at Twitch.
DrDisrespect also suspects that parts of the security team that banned him back then have now conspired with Cody Conners to coordinate their allegations against him.
He says he knows exactly who the two people are that he views as “sources for the allegations,” but they apparently forget that they internally admitted that there was nothing to the accusations. They had internally conceded that the content did not “justify child abuse behavior.”
What now? Despite DrDisrespect’s sharp allegations, he apparently does not want to sue anyone and will not comment further on the matter.
His plan is to ask YouTube to allow him to earn money there again and to continue as before.
DrDisrespect is loud and angry but pays attention to legally correct vocabulary
This is what it’s all about: DrDisrespect is not really presenting anything new but is clarifying his position, which he already had before:
- The person he texted may have been underage, but was still above the “Age of Consent” – Therefore, he did nothing wrong legally.
- He did not admit to “sexting,” only the sending of “inappropriate messages.”
- He has been formally exonerated in the case and had to remain silent about it.
In principle, he is repeating everything he has already said, now with a tone of conviction and an accusatory voice against some employees at Twitch who wanted to play him poorly.
Notably, in his statement, DrDisrespect pays close attention to his vocabulary and uses many words that do not suit him. He emphasizes that the investigation found he did not prey on children. However, this is not what he was accused of.
DrDisrespect denies sexting
– Says Twitch should never have banned him
This is what it’s all about: His defense is essentially: I did something wrong, but it’s nowhere near as bad as you claim, because she was over 16, it was not sexting, I never intended to meet her, and in every investigation, I was exonerated. Furthermore, this was confidential and should never have been brought up.
His partners did not part ways with him because they thought he did something illegal, but rather something morally wrong. He leaves this “moral misstep” uncommented: The former Twitch star DrDisrespect is apparently learning live on stream that his gaming studio is kicking him out
