Capcom will offer Dragon’s Dogma 2 at a higher price than its previous triple-A games released in 2023. We can already see and compare the price of the action role-playing game in the stores and on Steam. It may not be a one-time price increase.
How much will Dragon’s Dogma 2 cost? Depending on whether you play Dragons Dogma 2 on PC or console, you will have to pay a different price. For comparison, we have taken Resident Evil 4 Remake, which was released on March 23, 2023:
- In the Steam Store, the game costs 64.99 euros. Compared to previous titles from Capcom, this is a price increase of 5 euros: Resident Evil 4 costs, for example, 59.99 euros.
- In the PS Store, however, 74.99 euros are due. Compared to previous Capcom titles, the price has also increased by 5 euros.
- The same applies to the Xbox Store: Dragon’s Dogma 2 costs 74.99 euros, while Resident Evil 4 costs 69.99 euros.
Although Capcom has raised the price by 5 euros, it is not the leader: companies like Sony are now releasing their titles for 79.99 euros. However, with the current price increase, Capcom may have taken the first step in this direction and could also release its future games at a higher price.
With this trailer, you can already look forward to the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2:
Capcom raises prices because video games are “too cheap”
Which titles could also be affected? If Capcom applies the new price to future titles, several franchises would be affected by a price increase. The developer and publisher houses several game series, including:
- Resident Evil
- Street Fighter
- Monster Hunter
- Mega-Man
Fans are hoping for a Monster Hunter World 2. If it is actually announced, it could already be affected by the higher price. It is also likely that more games from the aforementioned series will follow.
Why was there a price increase? In a report, Capcom president Harushiro Tsujimoto stated that the retail price for video games is currently too low (via IGN).
The development costs are more than 100 times higher than during the Famicom era, but prices for video games have hardly risen since then. Developers’ salaries have also increased. Therefore, it is a “healthy option” for the industry to raise prices.
What do you think of the price increase? Are you willing to spend more money on video games? What would be your pain threshold?
