Just in time for the launch of one of the most anticipated role-playing games of the year, there’s a letdown for many RPG fans. With the launch of Dragon’s Dogma 2, Capcom has revealed a series of paid DLCs to the public for the first time. We’ll reveal what the developers want more money for.
What’s the problem? On the night of March 21 to 22, 2024, one of the most anticipated role-playing games of the year, Dragon’s Dogma 2, was released. The price for the fun? On Steam, you will have to invest a smooth 65 Euro for the standard edition and 75 Euro for the deluxe edition.
Further expenditures were not communicated to the public by Capcom representatives ahead of the launch. However, there was a review guide for all testers that broke down the planned DLCs. The information was under embargo until March 20, 2024.
And these DLCs are now visible to all players for the first time with the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Attention! Capcom has now commented on the criticism. You can learn more at the end of the message.

Right to the launch the first shitstorm
How is the community reacting? Many players are showing anger and disappointment. After all, some of the DLCs noticeably increase comfort. Moreover, items like target crystals are very rarely found in the game.
- Mokadelic writes on Reddit: “Most of the things don’t care about me, but that they put fast travel crystals behind a paywall, that’s pretty shabby.”
- Killu announces the direct consequence on Steam: “A single-player game where you have to pay for character modifications? Good luck, have fun. Enjoy my refund.”
- Some players like GxyBrainbuster also note on Reddit: “It was like that in the first part too.”
A look at Steam is enough to see that the majority of the community views this type of communication and monetization critically. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has received “Mostly Negative” ratings from the first 5,500+ reviews – only 39 percent of the reviews so far are positive.
What Capcom says about the criticism
In a post on Steam, Capcom representatives have now responded to the criticism of the DLCs (and other areas) – and apologized for all inconveniences. Regarding the microtransactions, they only point out that players can alternatively earn the paid items.
However, the developers do not comment on the fact that many players refer to the sudden, inadequately communicated release of the DLCs in their criticism, nor do they mention that, for example, the large portal crystals are only very rarely available.
